Posted: 28 Aug 2013 04:31 PM PDT One relationship is fractured, another is revisited, and another is publicly unveiled. Audiences can expect that and more on tonight's season finale of TV Land's "The Exes," which premieres Wed., Aug. 21 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT. (Credit: TV Land)Download.com caught up with series regular Wayne Knight (who plays jaded homebody Haskell Lutz), best known for playing manic mail carrier, Newman on "Seinfeld," Det. John Correli in "Basic Instinct," and villainous computer network engineer Dennis Nedry in "Jurassic Park," about "The Exes"' season finale, his favorite apps, the one that got away, whether e-mail can ever replace the U.S. Postal Service, and getting stalked by a crazed fan with a penchant for cooking turkey dinners, over snail mail. First off, with the season finale of "The Exes" premiering tonight, can you give us a taste of what to expect for Haskell's character? Well, Haskell's trolling this wedding, because he believes it's where you find the downtrodden, the miserable, the angry, and the envious; and that's the perfect woman for Haskell. I think there'll definitely be enough mirth to be had in the 22 minutes, tonight. The Haskell character is a definite homebody. While spending his days at home, which app best helps him to pass the time? I think that there are a lot of apps that we don't even know about that ... [Read more] |
Did EA drop the ball with Madden NFL 25 for iOS? Posted: 28 Aug 2013 09:53 AM PDT (Credit: Screenshot by Rick Broida/CNET) Madden NFL 25 made its iOS debut yesterday, with a price tag that probably caused some initial elation among fans of the series: it's free. The last Madden title cost $6.99 for the iPhone version and $9.99 for iPad, and previous games in the series were similarly priced. Turns out Madden NFL 25 isn't free, but freemium: unless you're willing to pony up for in-game cash (by way of in-app purchases, or IAP), you'll have a limited playbook for solo games and almost no chance of winning multiplayer matches against better-equipped players. Indeed, the game is less about making plays on the gridiron than it is about building your roster, playbook, and energy level -- all of which require cash. Prices for EA's bundles start at $1.99 for 8 game dollars and soar to $99.99 for 700 game dollars. Purchasing players and plays is optional; in theory you can compete without any extras, but you need energy in order to play -- not an entire game, but each drive. You're given 10 energy points from the start; once you've burned through th... [Read more] |
Giveaway: Move to iTransfer and give iTunes its swan song Posted: 28 Aug 2013 09:32 AM PDT As a Windows-centric user and part-time Apple lover, I really enjoy iTunes, at least on the Mac. But I will always be disdainful of its Windows counterpart. Windows iTunes is sluggish, crashes randomly for no reason, and with the latest update (ver. 11), it's not, overall, the most intuitive experience when there are multiple iDevices synced to one computer. Leawo iTransfer has always been a popular iTunes (for Windows) replacement in our catalog. Using iTransfer is easy: just connect your device, drag and drop the files you want to transfer -- and you're done! Retrieving files from any iDevice and transferring them to your PC is also a cinch. It's great for whenever you want to share a video or song from your phone or tablet with friends. It works with most types of files: music, videos, photos, and even ringtones. With iTransfer, you can drag and drop PDFs to be readable instantly on your iDevice and even turn the extra space into a Flash drive -- something that can't be done through regular channels. Leawo normally charges 20 bucks for iTransfer, but for one week only, they are rewarding their loyal Download.com users with a free giveaway of their most popular product. You read that right: this week only, you can get iTransfer at no charge! ... [Read more] |
HTC at work on mobile OS for China only Posted: 28 Aug 2013 07:05 AM PDT (Credit: Sarah Tew/CNET) Mobile company HTC is working on a mobile operating system that will be available exclusively in China, a new report claims. The operating system should launch later this year in China and come with integrated applications used often by Chinese Web users, including Twitter-like service Weibo, the Wall Street Journal is reporting on Wednesday, citing people who claim to have knowledge of HTC's plans. There would be a lot riding any HTC mobile operating system. The company has been having trouble attracting consumers in North America and Europe, and its sales have been sluggish over the last couple of years. China, however, is a huge market with nothing but growth potential for any and all device makers. And HTC wants to capitalize. Related stories |
