Firefox updates preach sharing, shielding, and a bit of 'Awesome'

On Tuesday, Mozilla released a new version update to Firefox (Windows, Mac, Linux) that expands its social functionality further by integrating a share button into the Firefox toolbar.

Firefox 23, now with more sharing.

The new share button lets users post an interesting article to friends and family via profile, private message, or email without having to leave the page. This is already complemented by a slew of recent feature add-ons in Firefox that include the ability to view your feeds, check status updates and activity, and chat with friends directly within the sidebar.

Mixed content blocking is now also enabled by default to provide greater protection against 'man-in-the-middle' attacks and giving users more control over what types of content to allow from being loaded.

Firefox for Android also comes with a new update. Updates include the 'Awesome screen,' a bookmark screen with direct links to saved pages much like the 'Speed Dial' page or bookmarks page found in Opera and Chrome, respectively. Yes, you read that correctly... 'Awesome screen.'

Star Apps: RuPaul

Posted: 07 Aug 2013 03:44 PM PDT

It's hard to believe that it's been 20 years since RuPaul first dragged drag into America's living rooms via the "Supermodel (You Better Work)" video, an MTV staple back in 1993. As for the haters who regarded her success as a fluke or her debut album title, "Supermodel of the World," as hubristic, RuPaul has proven them wrong and then some.

Following the initial hoopla with a slew of hit dance tracks -- "Back to My Roots," "Snapshot," "Looking Good, Feeling Gorgeous," "Workout," "People Are People," and "Cover Girl" -- RuPaul has gone on to become the face of M.A.C. cosmetics, receive a wax replica in Madame Tussauds, and even have a RuPaul doll made in her likeness. Now starring on Logo's hit TV series "RuPaul's Drag Race" for five seasons and counting, she's managed to maintain a longevity that her supermodel contemporaries would kill for. Linda, Naomi, Christy, Cindy, Claudia, and Nikki -- eat your heart out.

Apple's stock Weather app is so lame. I mean, all it does is report the local temperature and forecast. Bo-ring!

That's why third-party app developers continue to find new and interesting ways to sling weather data. There's Dark Sky, which specializes in next-hour forecasts; Climate Clock, which combines weather data with an actual clock; and The Weather Channel, which offers a little of everything.
