Good: Pixlgun 3D lets you play a survival first-person shooter against AI using Minecraft-like graphics. It also has tools for creating skins for your desktop version of Minecraft.
Bad: You'll always have to play the tutorial level to advance. The sequence of maps is always the same. There is no multiplayer via the Web. Continue-elixirs and items in the store are too expensive.
Bottom Line: Pixlgun 3D will be fun for Minecraft fans who have a lot of opportunities to play on local Wi-Fi with friends, but the single-player game is repetitive, and there are much better first-person shooters available. [Read more]

Garmin Head-Up Display (HUD)

Good: The Garmin Head-Up Display reduces driver distraction by projecting GPS information onto the windshield and in the line of sight. Setup is largely automated and painless. Garmin includes two methods of viewing the display.
Bad: Only one reflective film is included in the box, and installation is easy to botch. The HUD requires an additional $50 app to function.
Bottom Line: The Garmin HUD boosts safety and helps keep eyes on the road, but the cost of entry will likely dissuade most drivers. [Read more]

Lenovo A1000

Good: The Lenovo IdeaTab A1000's Dolby Digital audio enhancement features make almost any pair of headphones sound great, and the microSD expansion slot is a welcome addition.
Bad: The tablet's screen is unfashionably low-res, with washed out color and narrow viewing angles. Graphics-heavy games chug something awful, apps sometimes stutter when launched, and Netflix video doesn't play.
Bottom Line: The Lenovo IdeaTab A1000 is a meek 7-inch tablet that cuts far too many corners to reach its budget price. [Read more]

Good: The Acer Aspire S7 has the same great design we loved last year, but the S7-392-6411 has a more battery-friendly Intel Haswell CPU.
Bad: The touch pad and keyboard still don't rate for a $1,400-and-up laptop, and other high-end ultrabooks cost less.
Bottom Line: The Acer Aspire S7, a Windows 8 launch favorite that holds up nicely, gets a needed update to the latest CPUs for better battery life. [Read more]

Audiovox Car Connection

Good: The Audiovox Car Connection's data plan costs only $10 per month, and the device shows a car's location updated every 5 minutes. You can set a number of e-mail and text alerts, such as maintenance reminders.
Bad: Fuel economy monitoring is limited to a 30-day average. Car Connection reads a limited number of error codes and includes no means of resetting a Check Engine warning.
Bottom Line: The Audiovox Car Connection's main benefit is letting parents keep track of their children's driving behavior for a relatively low per-month price. [Read more]

Superlux HD681

User Rating:
Good: The Superlux HD681 semi-open headphones approach hi-fi quality with a very detailed sound, and have a very even bass response; also, they are well-constructed, comfortable, and insanely cheap.
Bad: So ugly; not very dynamic and can compress some music; can sound shrill with bright material; open design means they don't work well in loud environments.
Bottom Line: Despite atrocious cosmetic qualities, the insanely cheap Superlux HD681 headphones have a sound that aspires to greatness and only narrowly misses the mark. [Read more]
