Good: The Sony Action Cam is a good entry in the POV camera market that includes a waterproof case with a standard tripod mount; is available with or without Wi-Fi; has a small, lightweight body; and offers a decent number of recording options.
Bad: Video quality is disappointing viewed at larger sizes; can't rotate lens or flip video 180 degrees; camera can't stand on its own and can't easily be used without a door on its case; no access to mic jack when inside case; no still photos beyond interval shots; and additional purchases almost required.
Bottom Line: The Sony Action Cam is a solid first effort and worth its price, but some design shortcomings may be enough to put off some potential buyers. [Read more]

Good: The latest version of the Yahoo app gives options for both just headlines or visual news. Full-screen images with text overlays look great while you browse.
Bad: Facebook integration works, but only if you connect your Yahoo and Facebook account before using the app.
Bottom Line: More than just a news app, Yahoo stands out for its customization and search tools. [Read more]

Gogroove Smartmini BT

User Rating:
Good: The Gogroove Smartmini BT exceeded my expectations for FM transmitter clarity when tested via San Francisco's crowded airwaves. A powered USB port keeps devices charged, and 3.5mm input and output give users more ways to connect.
Bad: Sound quality for calls and music is limited by the relatively poor FM band connection. Microphone quality is highly dependent on the placement of the host car's power point.
Bottom Line: The Gogroove Smartmini BT is a multifunction audio bridge and hands-free calling device that performs only one of those functions particularly well: FM transmission. [Read more]

Good: Beautiful and intuitive interface. Option to download videos and watch while offline is incredibly convenient. Subtitles are available.
Bad: No sorting by date or event and no commenting on videos. Also, thumbnails should be marked with a date stamp to make it easier to spot newer videos.
Bottom Line: The TED app is the best way to access TED's educational, inspirational, and entertaining videos from your mobile device. [Read more]

ZAGGkeys ProFolio+ Keyboard Case Cover for iPad 2/3/4

Good: The ZAGGkeys ProFolio+ sports sturdy construction, compact design, and a multicolored LED backlit keyboard.
Bad: Higher price than average cases; only opens to one angle; can't use case easily for non-keyboard use.
Bottom Line: The backlit keyboard on the ProFolio+ might be worth the investment for some frequent travelers who've been feeling left in the dark. [Read more]

PLAiR (magenta)

User Rating:
Good: PLAiR is stick-like device that streams free Web videos from smartphones, tablets, and Chrome browsers. PLAiR handles all the streaming itself, so once you've selected a video, you can use your computer or mobile device without worrying about interrupting the video. It's capable of streaming shows from several major TV networks for free.
Bad: Streaming is glitchy and unreliable, plus many Web videos don't work. PLAiR also doesn't support most major streaming services, such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, and HBO Go, nor does it play back any music files or services. PLAiR also requires a separate power source, which detracts from its "just a stick" design. The physical hardware itself is cheap-feeling and poorly made.
Bottom Line: PLAiR is a neat-looking streaming device, but it's buggy, unreliable, and short on content. [Read more]

Samsung Galaxy S4

User Rating:
Good: The Samsung Galaxy S4 has Android 4.2.2, a fantastic camera, a powerful quad-core processor, and software solutions for just about every scenario -- including working as a TV/DVR remote. It's also comfortable in-hand and has NFC, a user-replaceable battery, and a microSD storage slot.
Bad: Its screen is dimmer than competitors', its plastic design gives it a cheaper look than rivals', and the Galaxy S4's power button turned on at undesired times. Not all camera modes work as promised, and a long list of software features can quickly overwhelm and confuse.
Bottom Line: Its laundry list of features requires time and effort to truly master, but the Galaxy S4 is the top choice for anyone looking for a big-screen, do-everything smartphone. [Read more]
