| Jawbone Big Jambox (black/graphite) Posted: 01 May 2012 04:02 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: For a compact portable Bluetooth speaker the Jawbone Big Jambox delivers impressive sound, has good battery life, and plays loudly without distortion. It also has a built-in rechargeable battery, an auxiliary input, a rugged design, and business-grade speakerphone capabilities. Bad: The Big Jambox is pricey and isn't as portable as its little brother, the original Jambox. Bottom Line: The Jawbone Big Jambox doesn't quite measure up to the Bose SoundLink Wireless Mobile and it carries a premium price tag, but it's an impressively designed product that offers strong performance and speakerphone capabilities. | 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML550 4Matic Posted: 30 Apr 2012 06:20 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML550 offers great power and low-speed handling like a vehicle half its size. The Comand infotainment system brings many of the features that we like to see in a tech car, including Bluetooth audio streaming, iPod/MP3 compatibility, and voice-activated navigation. Standard Attention Assist and Lane Tracking options inspire confidence. Bad: The Comand system takes time to learn and can be frustrating for both car-tech newbies and vets. Real-world fuel economy leaves much to be desired. Bottom Line: The 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML550 4Matic isn't perfect, but it does offer a good blend of tech, performance, and luxury. However, its diesel-powered sibling is probably the better bargain. [Read more] |
National Geographic Talk Abroad Lite Posted: 26 Apr 2012 07:50 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The National Geographic Talk Abroad Lite has space for two SIM cards, an FM radio, a flashlight, and 24-hour customer support. The phone itself costs only $59.99. Bad: Cheap, toylike construction and missing volume controls are but two downsides. The Talk Abroad service's complicated dialing procedure takes some getting used to. Bottom Line: As a phone, the National Geographic Talk Abroad Lite is weak, flimsy, and lacks essentials. However, as an emergency travel phone, its light, simple, and affordable build could do the trick for some. [Read more]
Posted: 23 Apr 2012 03:22 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The futuristically-styled $199.99 HTC One X offers Android fans on AT&T plenty to like, such as a massive, bright 4.7-inch screen, blazing 4G LTE data speeds, a powerful camera, and zippy performance running Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4. Bad: Sadly, HTC One X owners can't claim quad-core bragging rights. Also, the nonremovable battery and lack of SD card slot weaken an otherwise incredible Android smartphone. Bottom Line: Quad-core processing isn't everything, and AT&T's new $199.99 HTC One X proves it. This advanced Android has style, speed, blazing 4G, and power galore. [Read more]
Posted: 08 Mar 2012 10:29 PM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Pentax Optio WG-2 is a lightweight, but extremely rugged compact camera with some extra features and functions you won't find in competing models. Bad: The WG-2's shooting performance isn't particularly fast and it only has digital image stabilization. Bottom Line: The Pentax Optio WG-2 is a very good rugged camera with few trade-offs for its durability. [Read more]

Posted: 10 Jan 2012 11:29 PM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Panasonic DT50 series performs moderately well in 3D with less crosstalk than some rivals. The onboard wireless and full complement of video services will please Smart TV fans. The thin bezel and metallic finish is distinctive if a bit retro. Bad: This TV's picture quality is below average, especially considering the high price. Black levels are some of the lightest we've ever seen and shadow detail is washed out. Colors are inaccurate and undersaturated, the screen reflects too much ambient light, and uniformity is poor. Bottom Line: Panasonic's DT50 series of LED TVs is among the worst we've seen this year, and can't hold a candle to the company's plasmas. [Read more]
