Themes give you some options for the look of the app. Bad: You'll need to sign up with another supported RSS service before you can begin. You can't add, remove, or edit your feeds from within the app. Bottom Line: Unread is an excellent option for reading stories without distraction, but steer clear unless you don't mind doing some extra work, or already have your RSS feeds set up with another service. Sony Alpha ILCE-7 (with 28-70mm Lens) Posted: 06 Feb 2014 12:48 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Sony's Alpha ILCE-7, aka the A7, delivers excellent photo and video quality in a well-designed camera that's enjoyable to shoot with. Bad: The long startup time and short battery life disappoint. Bottom Line: Sony Alpha ILCE-7 (A7) is a great alternative to similarly priced entry-level full-frame dSLRs, as long as you don't need speedy continuous shooting. [Read more] |

Posted: 05 Feb 2014 10:36 PM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The JLab Epics are lightweight in-ear headphones that deliver good sound for a relatively modest price. They also fit comfortably, have a tangle-resistant flat cord, and come with a few different-sized Cush Fins that make them sit very securely in your ear. Additionally, they have a one-button universal inline remote/microphone and come with a decent protective carrying case. Bad: They look a little cheap. Bottom Line: The JLab Epics may look a little cheap, but they offer a comfortable, secure fit, and sound richer than their design would indicate. [Read more] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2014 10:17 PM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Toshiba L9300U series 4K/Ultra High Definition LED LCD TV has accurate color and can deliver its full motion resolution without smoothing; 3D sources shown with full HD resolution and all the benefits of passive 3D; 4K resolution provides some benefit with 4K PC games; includes wireless keyboard; excellent connectivity; firmware update will add compatibility with 4K/60 sources (HDMI 2.0). Bad: Exceedingly expensive and a poor value compared with 1080p TVs and many 4K TVs; poor black level, uniformity, off-angle and bright-room performance; improvements afforded by 4K resolution are minimal to nonexistent; imprecise local dimming causes some blooming and washout; sluggish, low-resolution menus and Smart TV suite. Bottom Line: Although its 3D deserves praise, overall the Toshiba L9300U is a worse performer and more expensive than its 4K competitors. [Read more] |

Posted: 05 Feb 2014 09:10 PM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The 2014 Mazda3 s Grand Touring 5-Door exhibits excellent driving response and very good fuel economy. Assistance features include a head-up display and blind spot monitor. Mazda Connect presents a very usable cabin tech interface, and supports music library control over Bluetooth. Bad: Live traffic integration requires the Mazda3 be tethered to a Wi-Fi hot spot. The head-up display's panel did not always deploy properly. Bottom Line: In features and driving character, the 2014 Mazda3 punches way above its humble economy-class roots, although a few bugs suggest the cabin tech needs refinement. [Read more] |
