Posted: 01 Oct 2013 12:43 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The new Beats Studio headphones are lighter, sturdier, and better-sounding than the original Studio headphones. They offer a comfortable fit and active noise cancellation, which works well but not great. The noise cancellation is powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery that offers up to 20 hours of battery life. The headphones fold up to fit in a nice carrying case (included). Bad: Very faint hiss from noise cancellation; if the internal battery dies, the headphones don't work; fairly pricey at $300. Bottom Line: They may not be a bargain at $300, but the new Beats Studio headphones are lighter and better-built, and sound significantly better than the original Beats Studio model. [Read more] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2013 10:10 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The NAD Electronics D 3020 Hybrid Digital Amplifier is a sleek, compact integrated stereo amplifier that takes up much less room than a typical AV receiver. The D 3020 has an excellent set of features, including built-in Bluetooth with aptX support, two digital audio inputs, and a dedicated subwoofer output. There's also a USB port, so the D 3020 can connect to a computer as a USB DAC. And the sound quality is outstanding, with plenty of power for most living rooms. Bad: The D 3020 feels expensive compared with cheaper (albeit larger) AV receivers that include a lot more functionality. The included remote is tough to read, especially in a dim room. Bottom Line: If you're looking to ditch your giant AV receiver for a compact stereo amp, the NAD D 3020 is the one to get. [Read more] |
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (special offers, 2013) Posted: 27 Sep 2013 09:27 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Amazon has improved on last year's excellent Paperwhite e-reader with a faster processor, more responsive touch screen, and a better integrated light that's brighter and whiter and displays more evenly across the screen. Pages also refresh less frequently (less flashing). A smattering of new features enhance Amazon's already best-in-class content ecosystem. Bad: Device hasn't gotten smaller or significantly lighter since last year, an AC adapter isn't included (just a Micro-USB cable for charging). The ad-free version costs $20 more. Bottom Line: While the "all-new" Paperwhite may seem like an unspectacular upgrade on the surface, it's a clear improvement over the original Paperwhite and arguably the best e-reader currently available. Kingdom Rush Frontiers (Android) Posted: 26 Sep 2013 10:49 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Kingdom Rush Frontiers brings more of the same great gameplay from the original with new towers, new monsters, and plenty of action in the latest update. Bad: The premium heroes are expensive. Bottom Line: Fast and exciting gameplay makes Kingdom Rush Frontiers a must-have pick for tower defense fans. [Read more] |
