AT&T's HTC One is just one device of dozens that that access live TV channels.

Got a hankering for watching HBO, VH1, or Showtime live from your smartphone or tablet? AT&T has good(ish) news for you. On Monday, the carrier launched over 100 live TV channels as part of its U-Verse app for select iOS and Android devices.

There is a bit of a catch, however. You'll already need to subscribe to a AT&T's U-verse TV package, like U-family, for one. In addition, AT&T said in a statement that 20 channels are accessible while on the go.

Reading between the lines, that leaves the majority of U-Verse channels still outside of reach when you're away from home. Still, the carrier says it will continue to add more live stations and devices in the near term.

I wasn't able to watch last weekend's "Breaking Bad" finale on the night it aired, meaning I faced a risk bigger than Walter White taking on Gus Fring: spoilers.

Come Monday morning, one look at Facebook or Twitter and I'd almost certainly read something that gave away important plot points. And I'm spoiler-averse right down to my very core. And it works with not only TV shows, but also NFL and MLB -- nice for those who like to record games for later viewing.

The app is basically a Facebook and Twitter viewer (you'll need to grant it access to your accounts) that blocks whatever you tell it to block (from a preset list). For example, in the NFL and MLB categories, you can choose one or more teams to "shield." Likewise, the app can put up shields for more than 30 TV shows, from "American Idol" to "Game of Thrones" to "True Blood."
