Posted: 03 Oct 2013 01:04 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The 2014 Jaguar F-Type boasts excellent power and noteworthy efficiency in both its V-6 and V-8 configurations. The V8 S model is packed to the gills with performance upgrades, yet still feels like an uncomplicated and pure roadster. Plus, it's simply beautiful. Bad: Cabin tech feels like an afterthought. There's no voice command for navigation or hands-free calling. The Meridian "premium" audio system's distorted bass reproduction was disappointing in a car of this price. Bottom Line: We fell in love with the gorgeous curves and excellent performance of the 2014 Jaguar F-Type, but middling tech and a very big price tag have us looking twice at its German competitors. Logitech Wireless All-In-One Keyboard TK820 Posted: 02 Oct 2013 11:49 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The ergonomic keys on the Logitech TK820 are a pleasure to touch, the integrated touch pad is fully compatible with 13 Windows 8 gestures, four AA batteries last for an impressive six months of use, and the convenient Unifying Receiver plays nicely with other Logitech peripherals. Bad: Nighttime users will lament the lack of backlit keys, and there's no indication of remaining battery life. Bottom Line: With a spacious touch pad, a satisfying typing experience, and impressive battery life, the Logitech TK820 is well recommended if you're looking to add an external input device to a Windows 8 desktop without a touch screen. Posted: 02 Oct 2013 11:37 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Nintendo 2DS is an affordable and solid system for a younger gamer or for those not interested in 3D visuals. It packs in a 4GB SD card and performs just as well as its 3DS brethren (save for 3D). Bad: The 2DS feels cheap and only has one speaker that sounds a little lacking. Though it's designed for children, there are a few vulnerable spots on the 2DS, and it might not survive a bad fall. Bottom Line: At $130, the 2DS offers a huge array of compelling software and makes for a great entry-level gaming system to the uninitiated first-time gamer. Just be sure to buy a protective case along with it, too. [Read more] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2013 10:58 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Sony Cyber-shot QX10 at its core is a good point-and-shoot camera with photo quality that's better than you'd get with most smartphones. Connects easily with Android devices with NFC. Available platform-agnostic API allows app developers to add support. Bad: The camera has a very limited feature set compared with a regular point-and-shoot; Sony's mobile app has few features; extended shooting drains your smartphone's battery; and its shooting performance can be extremely frustrating. Bottom Line: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-QX10 might be a fresh take on a point-and-shoot camera, but the design ends up being a bit more trouble than it's worth. [Read more] |
Philips Friends of Hue LightStrips Posted: 02 Oct 2013 08:00 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Philips Friends of Hue LightStrips give creative lighting and home automation enthusiasts a programmable, flexible decorative lighting accessory. Bad: These tiny LEDs aren't as programmable out of the- box as they could be, which hurts given their high price tag. Bottom Line: Intended for owners of Philips Hue LED bulbs, these LightStrips, as frivolous as they are, succeed by opening up another connected lighting option. [Read more] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2013 12:00 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The WD My Cloud is fast, affordable, and easy to use, and has a well-implemented, powerful personal cloud feature. Bad: The My Cloud mobile app's streaming function is very limited and can only display content by folders. Bottom Line: For a low-cost entry-level network storage device, the WD My Cloud is very impressive both in performance and features, making it one of the best deals for home users. [Read more] |

Posted: 02 Oct 2013 04:00 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Amazon's Kindle Fire HDX 7 is a performance monster that speeds through Web sites and UI pages at a frantic pace. The screen is impressively sharp and the small light design is comfy for reading books. Mayday is personal and near-instant customer service. Some small but smart UI changes lead to an overall more pleasant experience. Bad: The remote video viewing feature isn't ready at launch and ad removal still costs an extra $15. 16GB is too small for 1080p movies and there's no built-in storage expansion. The screen is tarnished by a yellowish tint and the buttons on the back are sometimes hard to find. No Google Play access means many apps still aren't available. Bottom Line: Armed with a powerful processor and Amazon's exhaustive content library, the Kindle Fire HDX delivers incredible value for its price, especially for Amazon Prime members. [Read more] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2013 09:22 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Maingear Pulse 14 offers customizable high-end parts in a reasonably slim, colorful case. Unlike some other compact gaming laptops, it includes plenty of ports and generous SSD/HDD combo storage. Bad: The 1,600x900-pixel display is low-res, and low quality for the price. The generic keyboard and touch pad do no favors, and the screen lacks touch input. Bottom Line: Another entry in the growing compact gaming laptop category, the Maingear Pulse 14 is slim and portable, with decent specs, but it's too expensive considering its lackluster screen.
