Posted: 03 Jul 2013 12:51 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Marantz NR1403's is significantly thinner than most AV receivers. It packs six HDMI inputs, which is the most you'll find at this price level. And despite the compact design, its sound quality is comparable to the best we've heard this year. Bad: There's no built-in Wi-Fi or Ethernet, so features like smartphone control and integrated streaming are missing. There's also no built-in Bluetooth, so you'll need a separate device for wireless audio streaming. Bottom Line: The Marantz NR1403 is a slim, handsome AV receiver with excellent sound and plenty of HDMI connectivity, although it lacks built-in networking. [Read more] |
Posted: 02 Jul 2013 11:45 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Hulu Plus mobile app offers a feature-rich experience comparable to that of the full Web site. Picture and sound quality are impressive, and controls are smooth. Bad: Settings and account options open up on a mobile Web page that loads slowly and sometimes doesn't work at all. There's no way to change default video quality in the app. Bottom Line: It's not perfect, but the Hulu Plus app offers great sound and video quality, which make it a must-download for any paying subscriber. Grace Digital Ecoxgear Ecorox (black) Posted: 02 Jul 2013 10:10 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Grace Digital Ecoxgear Ecorox mini Bluetooth speaker is very compact and fully waterproof, and has built-in speakerphone capabilities. It also offers good battery life. Bad: Bit pricey for how it sounds; tends to distort at higher volumes with bass-heavy material; vibrates at higher volumes and will move around on smooth surfaces. Bottom Line: The Ecorox is a decent-enough little speaker that has the added benefit of being waterproof, making it a good choice for use in the shower. But it could sound better for its price. Bose AE2w Bluetooth headphones Posted: 02 Jul 2013 06:18 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Bose AE2w Bluetooth headphones offer very good sound for Bluetooth, and they're arguably the most comfortable over-the-ear Bluetooth model. The control module is also well designed, with well-placed buttons that can be operated easily by feel alone. Bad: Pretty pricey; protruding Bluetooth module looks a little strange; volume may not be loud enough for some people, depending on device used and type of file played. Bottom Line: Despite a few question marks and a high price, the AE2w headphones are a very good-sounding Bluetooth pair that's lightweight and very comfortable to wear. [Read more] |
Posted: 02 Jul 2013 05:00 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Razer Blade 14 has a slim design with a powerful combination of fourth-gen quad-core Intel processor and Nvidia graphics; battery life is strong, too. Bad: A lackluster low-resolution, nontouch display doesn't fit the high-end design. Baseline 128GB SSD for $1,799 isn't sufficient for a gaming PC; you'd better pony up for the 256GB or 512GB model. Bottom Line: Ditching gimmicks and delivering on function, Razer's slim 14-inch gaming laptop marries true power and good battery life into an excellent PC. All it lacks a stellar display.
