Good: Blu Products' Life Play is very affordable for an unlocked smartphone. It also features an attractively thin design, a big screen, Android Jelly Bean, and a powerful camera.
Bad: The Life Play runs a slow processor and has just 4GB of internal storage. It isn't compatible with some wired phone headsets and lacks 4G LTE support.
Bottom Line: The unlocked $229 Blu Life Play offers Android Jelly Bean on the cheap, but getting the more expensive $299 LG Nexus 4 would be a wiser decision. [Read more]

Good: Samsung's Galaxy S4 Active has a sporty design, takes strong daylight photos, and delivers the majority of Android 4.2 features. It also has a great speakerphone.
Bad: Aqua mode is fixed focus, the S4 Active takes weak low light shots, and the phone isn't as durable as its name suggests. Its 8-megapixel camera is lower resolution than the original Galaxy S4's.
Bottom Line: Choose the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active for its sporty style, fast internals, and underwater camera fun, but pass if you're an image snob or seek a truly rugged phone. [Read more]

Good: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX300 is currently the lightest, smallest camera with a 20x zoom. It has built-in Wi-Fi for on-the-go sharing (among other things); fantastic battery life; and a large variety of auto shooting options.
Bad: The camera's weight and size can make it difficult to keep steady when using the zoom lens, the screen is difficult to see in bright sun, and the lens has small apertures at both ends, making the zoom best suited for daytime, outdoor use.
Bottom Line: If you miss having a zoom lens, but don't want to add too much bulk and weight to your travels, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX300 is a very good choice. [Read more]
