Good: The slick-looking, Intel-powered Google Chromebook Pixel combines the touch screen support of Windows 8 with the MacBook Pro's high-res Retina display. It also includes three years of free 1TB cloud storage, and has a 4G LTE option.
Bad: Pricing starts at a lofty $1,299; Web-based Chrome OS requires you to be online to do most tasks; Web apps can't yet compare to most Windows or Mac software, especially for media-centric activities like video.
Bottom Line: Despite impressive hardware specs and solid industrial design, the Chromebook Pixel's high price and cloud OS limitations make it impossible to recommend for the vast majority of users. [Read more]

Good: Samsung's ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T hybrid is a fast, full-powered Core i5 tablet, has a 1080p screen, comes with its own keyboard base, and includes the pressure-sensitive S-Pen that's very accurate and responsive.
Bad: Battery life isn't great for a tablet; it lacks laptop-style features like Ethernet and a standard SD card slot; plus, it's even more expensive than the Surface Pro.
Bottom Line: The Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T walks the line between ultrabook-level laptop and tablet, but doesn't truly excel at either. [Read more]

Good: Tupsu is a unique puzzler with attractive graphics and addictive game play.
Bad: Because Tupsu's eyeball is so tiny, it can be difficult to grab, and therefore difficult to control. No pinch-to-zoom in Camera view mode.
Bottom Line: Tupsu is a free downoad with realistic physics, attractive animation, and addicting gameplay. If you're into puzzlers, it's worth a download. [Read more]

Good: The Inrete Automatica seamlessly updates content on its 2GB of storage space. The Inrete Web site makes it easy to select content for the device.
Bad: The Automatica only works with open or password-protected Wi-Fi networks, and can't handle more complicated log-in procedures.
Bottom Line: Although an interesting idea in automatically updated portable storage, the Automatica's functionality is easily duplicated on a smartphone. [Read more]
