There are tons of music listening apps in both of the big app stores, but when you want to find new music, there's nothing better than a streaming radio app. These apps are set up to browse through stations and genres so you can get a fresh dose of new options based on the music you like.

The obvious choice here is an app like Pandora (Free - iOS|Android), but there are a few I like that have other options that might appeal to different types of music listeners.

This week's collection of apps is all about listening to streaming music on your smartphone. The first gives you a huge number of live stations you can listen to from around the globe. The second lets you listen to streams as well, but with a subscription you can pick and choose your music too. The third is free app with features from each of the first two, but might be the best of the bunch.

Even though you're listening to live radio, you can often buy the song on iTunes (for iOS).

Apple re-posts 10.8.2 update for Mac Mini and MacBook users

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 04:47 PM PST

Apple has re-issued its 10.8.2 update for specific Mac systems after having pulled it over a week ago.

OS X 10.8.2 has been available for Mac systems since mid-September, but in mid-November Apple pulled a specific version of the updater for the 2012 Mac Mini, iMac, and 13-inch MacBook Pro models, resulting in the inability for those with these systems to be updated to the latest version of OS X.

The reasons for the pulled update were not made public. When users attempted to install the Combo updater for OS X 10.8.2 on their systems, the installer gave an error stating the volume does not meet the requirements for this update.

As silently as this update was pulled, Apple has re-issued the update so it should be available for those who have affected systems. With this update available, you can now meet the system requirements for additional updates, including those for the latest versions of Aperture and iPhoto. If you already have OS X 10.8.2 on your system then you do not need to do anything, but if you have one of these systems and have been stuck with OS X 10.8.1, you can now bring your system up to date.

To install this update, check Software Update in your Mac's Apple Menu and apply all available updates there, but it can also be downloaded as a standalone updater from its ... [Read more]

Get ready to rumble in this boxing game

Every night is fight night in Gamevil's boxing title, Punch Hero (iOS | Android). Punch Hero is a cel-shaded arcade boxing game that packs plenty of action and customizable features. And best of all, it's free.

Don't let your guard down...

The fighting controls are pretty simple: tap the left or right side to throw a jab or swipe across the screen to throw a hook. You can also swipe diagonally to throw a slower but stronger uppercut to deal more damage. There are also dedicated roll buttons that players can use to dodge and counter attacks.

Punch Hero throws over a dozen fighters in your path on the way to the top, with each fighter more menacing than the last.

Dodge and roll, then land a counter hook.

You can also go through Training mode to hone your reflexes and build up your stats to increase the speed and damage of your fighter. There are also fun features like mapping your face onto the boxer and even sparring with zombies. Yeah. Zombies.

Apple released an update yesterday to let Mac software handle raw photos from eight new cameras, most of them high-end compact models.

The Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 4.02 lets Aperture 3, iPhoto 11, and other software handle raw photos from the following cameras:

• Nikon Coolpix P7700

• Olympus Pen E-PL5

• Olympus Pen E-PM2

• Olympus Stylus XZ-2

• Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3

• Sony Alpha NEX-5R

• Sony Alpha NEX-6

• Sony Alpha SLT-A99

Raw photos offer more flexibility and higher image quality than conventional JPEGs, but photographers must use software to process the photos, and companies must write software to decode new cameras' proprietary formats.
