The stars lined up just right this week (read: gift-giving season is here!) to have a number of awesome game sequels and new releases launch all at once. Frankly, there are so many new games that there is no better time than the present to check out what the App Store has to offer.

Rick Broida already wrote about Grand Theft Auto: Vice City earlier today, but there are plenty more that would make nice additions to your iOS gaming collection.

This week's collection of apps is a group of excellent games released over the course of this week. The first is a funny and fun dual-stick shooter with tons of weapons to collect. The second is the latest installment in probably the best FPS franchise at the App Store. The third is a port of an old game to the iPad (and only the iPad), but it might be the most famous classic RPG ever.

Minigore 2: Zombies ($1.99) is the sequel to the fun and funny dual-stick shooter Minigore. The graphics in this zombie-themed sequel still have that funny block-head look, but you're no longer fighting the furry baddies; now you're blowing away the undead.

Part of the fun in the game is John Gore's constant grimace as he b... [Read more]

Jet Set Radio goes mobile, fittingly enough

Jet Set Radio, the cult classic Dreamcast title from 2000, is now available for iOS and Android, following its HD rerelease on PSN, XBLA, and Windows.

Easily one of the most creative, as well as subversive, video games ever conceived, gameplay consists mainly of "grinding" (aggressive inline skating) across a colorful neo-Tokyo, tagging walls, and recruiting new members, who then become playable characters, to your gang, the GGs -- all while while evading police, rival gangs, and listening to the pirate radio station from whence the game gets its name, hosted by DJ Proooooofesssoooooor KKKKKKKKKKKK.

Jet Set Radio was the very first game to utilize cel shading, a distinctive type of type of 3D model rendering that gives objects in the game a comic book or cartoonish flair. The aesthetic of the game was ahead of its time in 2000, and still looks fresh today. Another benchmark for the title was its eclectic soundtrack of licensed music by real musicians, such as Jurassic 5 and Rob Zombie. The soun... [Read more]

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City brings the '80s back to Android and iOS

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for iOS got a nice Retina-enhanced makeover.

Has it really been 10 years since Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City made its PlayStation 2 debut? And has it really been 26 years since the big hair, pastel suits, and electronic-infused pop celebrated in that game were all the rage? Heaven help me, I'm old.

Just as Rockstar brought Grand Theft Auto 3 to smartphones and tablets to celebrate that game's 10-year anniversary, so has its sequel, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, arrived for iOS. (The Android version has been temporarily delayed but is due shortly.) And although it suffers from similar control issues, the game is as ridiculously fun (and funny) as you remember.

Because I'm a parent of younger-ish kids, I'm going to pause right here and note that although Vice City looks colorful and cartoonish, it's packed with violent and suggestive themes, R-rated language, sexual content, and other stuff unsuitable for those under the age of 17 (which is ostensibly how old you must be in order to purchase ... Add Twitter results back to Google search in Chrome

Quite some time ago, Twitter discontinued the ability to see tweets when you did a search through Google. The tweets were actually useful, because you could see who was talking about whatever you searched for, as well as gather additional information.

If you want to add the Twitter results back to Google search, you can do so with a simple extension. Just install a copy of HashPlug for your Chrome Web browser.

This extension will add the Twitter results into a small column to the right of your search results. The column updates with live tweets, but if you see something interesting, you can scroll back down to it. You can also retweet, reply, or favorite the tweets from the column.

If there is a Google info card on the right-hand side of the page (as shown in the example images in this post), the Twitter column from HashPlug will appear above it.

This is how the results appear before installing the extension.

Skype lets you pick between text, voice or even video to communicate. When using the text option, your message history is saved to the client forever, by default. This means that every single message you've sent to someone is being stored on your computer -- until you take action to delete it.

If your computer is only accessed by you, then the message history may not be an issue. However, if you are sharing a computer, or you're just worried that private data could fall into the wrong hands, then check out these quick steps to delete all of your history and set a deletion schedule for future messages.

Samsung's Galaxy S3 to get Premium Suite upgrade

Samsung's Galaxy S3 is getting the company's Premium Suite upgrade pack.

Samsung launched a video today showing just some of the features coming to its flagship handset. The upgrade, which was previously announced for the Galaxy Note 10.1, adds a new featured called Page Buddy that predicts what the users want to do based on their actions. So, if the Galaxy S3 owner plugs in earphones, the software will load the music player.

A contextual menu feature is also available in the Premium Suite upgrade, allowing users to see their most frequently used apps, rather than an entire list. The Reader Mode lets users change text size and share Web pages, and a Facebook Lock Ticker addition displays a person's social news feed on the handset's lock screen. The upgrade will also support multiple windows.
