Good: The WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo makes a great alternative to USB- or FireWire-based external drives. The drive is relatively affordable, supports RAID configurations, and is easy to service.
Bad: The WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo's performance is comparatively slow. The drive doesn't offer any other connection types, nor does it include a Thunderbolt cable.

Fitbit Ultra (plum)

Good: Small, light, and easy to carry, the Fitbit Ultra effortlessly tracks your basic daily activity level. It has a host of online analytical tools, it tracks sleep quality, and it boasts both Android and iOS mobile apps.
Bad: The Fitbit Ultra needs to be within 15 feet to sync with its USB-connected base station. The Trainer feature and a deeper activity data analysis cost extra. It's not waterproof.
Bottom Line: The Ultra extends Fitbit's already impressive personal fitness data measurement abilities, but for the same $99.95 price. Already a high-tech pedometer, the Ultra now has an altimeter to record stairs climbed, too. It isn't as advanced as more expensive mobile fitness gadgets, but the tiny device is easy to wear all day long and fun to use. [Read more]

Good: The Canon PowerShot SX260 HS has shooting modes for every type of photographer from casual to advanced, a useful long zoom lens with excellent image stabilization, and overall excellent photo and video quality for a compact megazoom.
Bad: The SX260 HS' menus and controls can take some getting used to, it's got a short battery life, and photos get noticeably softer looking indoors or in low light.
Bottom Line: A wider, longer lens, a few much-needed design tweaks, and excellent photo quality add up to one pretty great compact megazoom, the Canon PowerShot SX260 HS. [Read more]

Good: The Nikon Coolpix S9300 has fast shooting performance, a wide, long lens in a pocketable body, and several fun and useful shooting modes that help you get the best shot without much effort.
Bad: Competing models from Canon and Panasonic have longer lenses and more shooting options for the same suggested retail price and the S9300's photos aren't the sharpest when viewed at larger sizes.
Bottom Line: The compact Nikon Coolpix S9300 is a good choice for anyone after a pure point-and-shoot experience and a long zoom lens. But, depending on needs, you might want to wait for a price drop. [Read more]

Good: The Nikon D800 boasts stellar photos, excellent videos, speedy performance, and a relatively streamlined shooting design.
Bad: While there's nothing major to complain about, the D800's battery life could use a boost.
Bottom Line: An unsurprisingly great camera that's worth every penny of its higher price for its target market of professional nonsports photographers, the Nikon D800 should definitely please those who've been waiting patiently to replace their older Nikon equipment. [Read more]

Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook 530U4BI

User Rating:
Good: The Samsung Series 5 is a fairly slim midsize laptop with decent battery life and plenty of features, including dual USB 3.0 ports.
Bad: Samsung calls this an ultrabook, but with a DVD drive, 500GB platter hard drive, and weighing nearly 4 pounds, it really doesn't fit the ultrabook mold.
Bottom Line: If you ignore the ultrabook branding, and instead think of this as a somewhat slim midsize, mainstream laptop, the Samsung Series 5 14-inch is a fine example of the form. [Read more]
