Good: The rebuilt interface of the Tumblr app for iOS is clean and makes it easy to navigate quickly. The app is much more responsive as you navigate through menus.
Bad: There still aren't options for stylized text, so you'll still need to add HTML tags to posts.
Bottom Line: The new Tumblr app is a vast improvement over previous versions, with a great new look and fast interaction. If you're a Tumblr user, you should definitely download this app. [Read more]

Libratone Zipp (gray)

Good: The portable Libratone Zipp AirPlay speaker has a modern, eye-catching design and excellent sound for its size, and you can connect directly to it from an iOS mobile device, PC, or Mac. It has a built-in rechargeable battery or can be powered by an included AC adapter. It also has a USB port for charging smartphones.
Bad: Many source devices can't access Wi-Fi services while connected to the Libratone, or need to use pricey data plans; the Zipp only has 4 hours of battery life with wireless on; it's not compatible with Android smartphones and tablets (no Bluetooth); and it's expensive.
Bottom Line: The Libratone Zipp is one of the best-sounding and best-looking portable wireless speakers out there, but its high price and Wi-Fi limitations give us pause. [Read more]

Good: The Maingear Nomad 17 offers fast performance and deep configuration options, and Maingear has a great rep for support.
Bad: A $2,000 laptop really needs a better keyboard and touch pad, and a less generic body.
Bottom Line: A hefty investment if nicely configured, the Maingear Nomad 17 delivers for serious gaming, although the look may not be for everyone. [Read more]

Microsoft Windows RT

User Rating:
Good: Windows RT takes Microsoft's operating system to places it's never been before. Running on lower-powered ARM chips and forgoing third-party legacy Windows programs, Windows RT emphasizes much of the best of Windows 8.
Bad: You won't be able to run anything from Windows 7 on Windows RT, and Windows RT tablets have been dogged by performance complaints.
Bottom Line: Windows RT is a strange beast. On the one hand, speed, security, and the best of Windows 8 make RT a pleasure to use. But app restrictions make Windows RT confusing, and the limited availability of apps undercuts the operating system's usefulness. [Read more]

LG 47LS4600

User Rating:
Good: The LG LS4600 is an attractive-looking midrange TV with a slim bezel and a rotating stand. Its picture delivers good shadow detail and colors are relatively accurate. The menu system is easy to navigate.
Bad: The TV has some of the worst black levels and uniformity I've seen this year. Colors are desaturated and skin tones in particular can look a little pale. For a midrange TV there are no features to speak of -- even the network port is inactive.
Bottom Line: The LG LS4600 LED TV has looks on its side, but it doesn't perform to the level expected at this price. [Read more]

Evernote (iOS)

User Rating:
Good: Evernote gives you access to your notes, images, and voice recordings on all your devices. A premium subscription includes PIN access, among other features.
Bad: Evernote Premium offers the ideal setup with PIN access, document history, offline notebooks, and priority support, but a $5 monthly subscription is simply too steep.
Bottom Line: If you're looking for a note-taking app that syncs across all platforms -- or just an easy way to keep track of your digital odds and ends -- Evernote is a worthwhile download. [Read more]
