Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Philips' Hue Connected Bulb lets you change the color of your lightbulbs and control them from your phones. It's easy to use, and -- most importantly -- nails the basics.
Bad: Three-bulbs-and-a-hub is expensive at $199, the novelty factor will wear off for many users quickly, and Android users apparently come in second on Philips' app development priority list.
Bottom Line: You might not have an obvious need for an Internet-connected, color-changing light bulb, but the Philips Hue Connected Bulb kit offers enough potential to justify its high price tag. [Read more]

Good: With its multiple cleaning modes, the LG Hom Bot Square gives the user a terrific amount of control over how it operates. Its remote is convenient, easy to use, and well-designed.

Bad: You can still make a quick, easy cup of coffee with other brewers in the same price range.
Bottom Line: We can't justify the purchase of this machine when we compare it with the $169 Bunn My Cafe MCU, which can make decent K-Cup coffee and a reliable cup from fresh grounds. [Read more]

Starbucks Verismo 580 Brewer (piano black)

Posted: 08 Sep 2013 10:37 PM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Starbucks Verismo 580 is easily one of the best-looking single-serve coffee brewers available. The coffee and espresso it brews both taste almost exactly like what you'd get at your neighborhood Starbucks, for a lot less money.
Bad: With the Verismo, your options are hugely limited – it's Starbucks, or it's nothing. The powdered milk lattes are also terrible.
Bottom Line: If you love Starbucks so much that you don't care to drink anything else, then look no further – the Verismo is the coffee maker for you. Coffee drinkers who like fresh ground beans and experimenting with different brands will want to look for a more versatile brewer. [Read more]

Good: The Bunn My Café MCU is the most affordable, most versatile single-serve coffeemaker we tested, brewing K-Cups, pods, and ground coffee alike.
Bad: The My Café runs a little on the noisy side, and its unapologetically industrial look might not be for everybody. Also, its four interchangeable brew heads require a bit of extra storage space.
Bottom Line: It's affordable, it's versatile, it's durable, it's easy to use, and most importantly, it makes a reliably mean cup of joe. The Bunn My Café MCU was, unanimously, our favorite single-serve coffee maker. [Read more]
