Good: Nokia's Lumia 521 packs in a better camera and more software features than you might expect for its $150 off-contract price tag.
Bad: No LTE, poor screen quality, and no camera flash remind you that the 521 wasn't built to be a premium smartphone.
Bottom Line: Nokia's Lumia 521 is one of the best bargain smartphones on any platform, but skip it if LTE is of paramount concern. [Read more]

Good: NOAA Hi-Def Radar has fast-loading radar animations, tons of useful features for tracking weather, and a bookmarking system to save multiple locations.
Bad: The app doesn't send notifications or alerts for approaching storms.
Bottom Line: NOAA Hi-Def Radar is an excellent way to track storms, giving you a ton of useful information, but it's missing one important feature. [Read more]

Good: The GoGroove BlueGate is tiny and unobtrusive in design. The unit is easy to operate, even without instructions, and offers play and pause controls.
Bad: The device uses a nonstandard USB power cable that can be difficult to replace. The unit also pairs for hands-free calling despite lacking a microphone.
Bottom Line: The GoGroove BlueGate is a good option for adding Bluetooth audio streaming to a car or home audio system, but portable headphone users will want to look for a more flexible unit. [Read more]

Good: The Canon EOS Rebel T5i retains the great articulated touch-screen implementation that's optimized for video, and delivers the same excellent photo quality and solid video as its predecessor. Plus the performance is slightly improved.
Bad: The phase-detection autofocus system is feeling its age and competitors have caught up with the Live View performance. The tiny autofocus points in the viewfinder also remain annoying to use, and the feature set remains lackluster.
Bottom Line: While the Canon EOS Rebel T5i is -- almost literally -- the same solid camera as its predecessor, it's starting to lag frustratingly behind the competition in some ways. [Read more]
