Posted: 07 May 2013 11:30 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: With its V-6 engine, six-speed gearbox, and great handling, the 2013 Honda Accord Coupe is way more fun than a car this size should be. The cabin tech system check all of the right boxes for audio sources and features basic app integration with Aha and Pandora. Honda's LaneWatch camera takes getting used to, but is very useful. Bad: Multiscreened infotainment system can be confusing and awkward to use. Active driver aid technologies, such as blind-spot monitoring, cross traffic alert, and adaptive cruise are missing from the options list. Bottom Line: The 2013 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L V-6 is a big step in the right direction for Honda, with great performance and good tech, but we worry that all of these virtues may not trickle down to the rest of the brand. Posted: 07 May 2013 10:18 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 has strong image stabilization to back up its 50x zoom lens; excellent picture quality for its class; and a large assortment of shooting options for all levels of photographers. Bad: The HX300's 20-megapixel sensor doesn't translate into better picture quality. It doesn't have a hot shoe, GPS, or Wi-Fi built in. Captures JPEG only, no raw. Bottom Line: It can't match some of its competition in the features department, but the Sony Cyber-shot HX300 still packs a powerful zoom lens and plenty of point-and-shoot punch. [Read more] |
Sol Republic Jax (blue/stellar) Posted: 07 May 2013 09:51 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Sol Republic Jax headphones deliver good sound for a relatively modest price. They also fit comfortably, have a tangle-resistant flat cord, and there's an Apple friendly inline remote/microphone for making cell phone calls. Bad: The Jax's simple, plastic design looks cheap. Bottom Line: The $40 Sol Republic Jax in-ear headphones have the look of a bargain model but sound as good as headphones that cost twice as much. [Read more] |
Posted: 07 May 2013 09:44 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Toshiba Kirabook is made of superior materials and has an unusually high-resolution display. Bad: The design doesn't wow, considering the high price. Battery life is merely OK, and the least expensive version omits a touch screen. Bottom Line: Toshiba's ambitious Kirabook has a screen that rivals Apple's MacBook Pro with Retina Display, and a price to match. It's a solid, useful laptop, but for these prices, the design should really be more exciting. [Read more] |
Posted: 07 May 2013 08:34 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Sony HT-CT260 delivers excellent sound quality for a budget sound bar/subwoofer system. It has a distinctive, angular design, plus a built-in remote control signal repeater, in case the sound bar blocks your TV's remote sensor. There's also integrated Bluetooth for wireless audio streaming from most smartphones and tablets. Bad: Some similarly priced sound bars sound even better. And the hexagonal design may not be for everyone. Bottom Line: The Sony HT-CT260 is our go-to budget sound bar pick, with excellent sound quality, built-in Bluetooth, an adaptable design, and no major missteps. [Read more] |
Posted: 07 May 2013 04:00 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Sony Vaio Fit 14 is an attractive thin-and-light laptop with excellent features, performance, and design for its price. It has a bright and very responsive touch screen and higher resolution than some competing models. Bad: Those who need five-plus hours of battery life, a really light body, or extreme performance will still need to spend more money. Its speakers sound a bit thin and its battery isn't removable. Bottom Line: The Sony Vaio Fit 14 is an all-around excellent laptop for the money that will satisfy the basic demands of everyday use for many people and look good doing it. [Read more] |
