Asphalt 7: Heat (iOS)

Asphalt 7: Heat (iOS)

Posted: 29 Sep 2012 02:24 AM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Asphalt 7 is one of the best for arcade racing, offering fantastic graphics as you race through several environments and unlock 60 licensed real-world vehicles.
Bad: Cars are slow to come by, which entices you to pay to play. The ability to buy your way to the top may turn some players off.
Bottom Line: If you want an arcade racing game that's less like a simulator and more about speeding down the track while grabbing bonus items, Asphalt 7 is one of the best in the App Store. [Read more]

Wild Blood (iOS)

Posted: 29 Sep 2012 02:06 AM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Wild Blood features fun, action-filled gameplay as you hack your way through monsters using one of three upgradable weapons. It has beautiful 3D graphics and immersive ambient sounds.
Bad: Strange camera tracking sometimes turns you away from what you want to look at. Linear gameplay means there's not much beyond the main story.
Bottom Line: If you like hack-and-slash RPGs, Wild Blood is a great option on iOS with stunning graphics and fun gameplay, but there isn't much strategy beyond kicking monster butt. [Read more]

FIFA Soccer 13 (iOS)

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 11:38 PM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: FIFA Soccer 13 is not only the best soccer game, but the best sports game on an iOS device. New skill moves are easier to pull off, making them integral to the game. Precise controls and fast-paced action make for excellent gameplay.
Bad: Skill levels still feel too far apart. Poor camera selections make playing on an iPhone difficult with very small players, forcing you to bring your iPhone much closer than you'd like.
Bottom Line: If you want a great soccer game for iOS, FIFA 13 hits the mark on almost every level. With tons of teams, new skill moves, and online multiplayer, this is the sports game to beat on iOS. [Read more]

Vizio E320i-A0

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 10:36 PM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Vizio E320i-A0 32-inch LED-based LCD TV is a superb value, bringing Smart TV and solid picture quality in the same price range as many small TVs with neither. The Smart content selection is excellent and responsiveness was very good. Image-quality highlights include relatively deep black levels and good color. With its thin bezel, the set has a more compact, sleeker look than competitors.
Bad: The Vizio's picture falls short of some entry-level TVs', with subpar shadow detail, and shows some discoloration in dark areas. Its Smart TV interface design seems a bit dated.
Bottom Line: For people seeking integrated Smart features, the Vizio E320i-A0 is the strongest value we've seen yet among 32-inch TVs. [Read more]

Bad Piggies (iOS)

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 08:50 PM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Bad Piggies takes the Angry Birds franchise in a fun and challenging direction. You get tons of levels to explore and truly mind-bending puzzles, while keeping the Angry Birds aesthetic.
Bad: The added challenge and complexity will probably turn off a large swath of Angry Birds fans. The game is not yet ready for the larger screen on the iPhone 5.
Bottom Line: If you're up for the challenge, Bad Piggies is a fun and interesting departure from Rovio's earlier games. Offering several levels, fun and funny vehicles to build, and recognizable artwork and characters, this game is a sure hit. [Read more]

Zeebox (iOS)

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 08:32 PM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Zeebox lets you use one app as the second screen for all your favorite shows. It's filled with information, and you get live updates about actors, products, and more that appear in the show.
Bad: If you're not careful, you'll be sending tweets and Facebook statuses about every little thing. Control of your set-top box (when it happens) will be limited to Comcast until more companies come on-board.
Bottom Line: If you watch television regularly, Zeebox is an excellent companion, with tons of information about each show and several ways to communicate with other fans in real time. [Read more]

eBay (Android)

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: eBay for Android is great for searching, browsing, and managing bids and transactions.
Bad: The Motors interface needs work. The app is not particularly attractive.
Bottom Line: Whether you're a casual shopper or an avid eBay buyer or seller, eBay for Android is worth a download. Despite its shortcomings, it's still a powerful companion to the full Web site. [Read more]

Pocket (Android)

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 06:24 PM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Pocket has a sleek design, offline caching, and unparalleled compatibility across platforms and with other third-party apps.
Bad: There's no way to reorder items in your Pocket list.
Bottom Line: If you're looking for a bookmarking tool that syncs across devices, then look no further. Better than Instapaper and other competitors, Pocket is the app to beat in the category. [Read more]

Amazon Kindle Fire (2012)

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 11:15 PM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Kindle Fire (2012) improves on its predecessor in three key ways: faster performance, a better interface with cool new features, and a significant price reduction.
Bad: Designwise it's the same Fire from 2011 with no HD video support, no camera, no HDMI, no storage expansion, and no volume buttons.
Bottom Line: The Kindle Fire (2012) takes it up a notch in value, but is tethered to the same design oversights of the original. [Read more]

Skitch (iOS)

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 08:06 PM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Skitch lets you create quick and easy image and map annotations to express your ideas visually. As an Evernote app, it now syncs across platforms so you can pick up where you left off.
Bad: Evernote compatibility means you must log in to save. You can no longer use satellite images in the app. Most importantly, you can't name your files.
Bottom Line: The Skitch update adds new features while taking away important older ones. It's an excellent way to quickly get your ideas across to someone, but it needs some work for it to become your go-to app for annotating images, Web sites, and maps. [Read more]

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The PSB Speakers M4U 2 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones have really comfy earpads, keep working even after the batteries have drained, and sound great.
Bad: The M4U 2s are a bit more expensive than most top-of-the-line noise-canceling headphones.
Bottom Line: The PSB Speakers M4U 2 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones combine above-average noise cancellation with excellent sound quality that's well worth the price for dedicated audiophiles looking to eliminate ambient noise. [Read more]
