There are quite a few companies battling it out in the data calling space, each of which has its own benefits and drawbacks. Some offer voice-only calling while others allow for video calls, photo transfer, and group chat.

Office 2013 keeps you connected everywhere

Along with all the new features, the version of Microsoft Office revealed today (read CNET's review) is now available both as a standalone suite and by subscription. The options are tailored towards different use cases, depending on your productivity requirements.

Office 365 Home Premium, $99.99 per year, five PCs/Macs/Windows tablets: This is the "Microsoft recommended" version of Office. It comes with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, Access, 20 GB of SkyDrive storage, 60 global minutes per month on Skype, and Office on Demand for always-available Web access to the full suite. PhoneClean 2.0 reclaims storage space on your iOS device

Feeling the storage crunch on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad? A free utility may be able to help.

Last summer, CNET's Matthew Elliott took iMobie's PhoneClean for a test drive. The utility provides a "digital colonic" (Matt's words), cleansing any iOS device of useless and unnecessary files that might be consuming valuable space.

However, Matt wasn't willing to subject his iPhone 4S to PhoneClean's mysterious ministrations, only his iPad.

Wuss.

As the braver, dumber, blogger, I decided to let the newly updated PhoneClean 2.0 do its thing on my iPhone 4S. And you know what? It works, though don't expect miracles -- at best you might reclaim around a gigabyte of space.

Of course, if your device has only 16GB or even 8GB of storage, that might be a big deal. And regardless of how much storage you have, if you're running out of it, any extra space you can free up is welcome indeed.

PhoneClean scours internal memory in search of temp files, cached and offline files, cookies, script files, and "other" junk, which can get left behind by failed iTunes syncs. In version 2.0 (which... [Read more]

After existing in preview form since last summer, Office 2013, the next version of Microsoft's productivity software, is now available for download.

More than a few versions of the software are available, but the basic story is that individuals can buy Office Home and Student 2013 with all the familiar apps like Word and Excel for a one-time fee of $139. Yet, since this stand-alone package won't entitle you to any subsequent upgrades, Microsoft would rather that you choose a pricier and more complete subscription model for $99 per year that delivers the various updates over the coming months and years.
