Pentax K-01 (body only, black) Posted: 23 Mar 2012 12:07 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Pentax K-01's strengths lie in its use of existing standards; it's designed to use older K-mount lenses without an adapter, and uses Adobe DNG as its raw format. That, plus terrific photo quality. Bad: It's relatively large, and even if you love the design aesthetic it has some irritating operational quirks. Plus the autofocus isn't up to par. Bottom Line: A great option if you have a shelf full of K-mount lenses and don't mind missing some action shots, but the Pentax K-01 isn't such a great option for a typical amateur photographer. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX10V (Red) Posted: 29 Feb 2012 04:14 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX10V is a feature-filled compact megazoom with very good photo and video quality and a useful zoom lens. Bad: The HX10V's 18-megapixel resolution is more about marketing than image quality. Many of its shooting modes require multishot processing, which slows you down and can't be used with moving subjects. Bottom Line: Sony continues to crank out nice compact cameras with long zoom lenses, and the Cyber-shot DSC-HX10V is no exception. [Read more] |

Posted: 31 Jan 2012 06:12 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The XBA-1iP is Sony's most affordable set of XBA in-ear headphones that feature an inline microphone and volume controls with a high-resolution balanced armature driver that blocks ambient noise. Bad: Bass depth may not have enough oomph to please buyers that live on a steady diet of rock, dance, or hip-hop. Bottom Line: Sony's XBA-1iP entry-level headphone has a clear, transparent sound that's well-suited for buyers craving high-resolution fidelity for $100. [Read more] |
Posted: 10 Jan 2012 03:33 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: With an arrestingly large 4.7-inch screen, 4G LTE, satisfying performance, and the highest-resolution camera ever on a U.S. smartphone, the HTC Titan II raises the bar for Windows Phone devices. Bad: While an ultrasharp shooter sounds great, we're not sure about paying an extra $100 for the privilege. The phone's massive size could be an issue for smaller hands and the display wasn't as sharp as we'd like. Bottom Line: The HTC Titan II pushes the limit of just how big and capable a Windows smartphone can be. If it weren't for the lower-priced Nokia Lumia 900, the Titan II would be the greatest Windows Phone 7 handset to walk the earth. [Read more] |
Posted: 07 Jan 2012 02:56 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Nikon D4 offers excellent shooting performance. The video implementation, including manual audio control, is great, and the camera offers impeccable image quality, particularly at low ISO levels. The D4 has versatile connectivity options, and the redesigned elements make all the difference to the experience. Bad: There's no USB 3.0 interface; the Ethernet connection sucks a lot of battery power; and the Live View switch is positioned awkwardly for frequent video shooters. Bottom Line: The Nikon D4 offers many significant improvements from previous professional-grade SLRs, such as the D3S, as well as excellent shooting performance, autofocusing speed, and video recording.
