User Rating:
Good: The Velocity Micro Edge Z55 offers some of the best bang for the buck I've seen in an upper midrange gaming desktop.
Bad: I wouldn't call this desktop overly quiet.
Bottom Line: The Velocity Micro Edge Z55 is a laser-focused gaming PC with a relatively attainable price, and it's an easy system to recommend to enthusiasts. [Read more]

BlackBerry Mini Keyboard with Convertible Case

User Rating:
Good: The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard with Convertible Case brings a high-end faux-leather feel and a well-designed keyboard to the PlayBook. The integrated touch pad simplifies the tablet's UI.
Bad: On top of its high $119 price tag, many of the Mini Keyboard's premium abilities, such as Windows desktop replication, must be purchased by corporate IT managers.
Bottom Line: RIM's new BlackBerry Mini Keyboard quickly converts a PlayBook tablet into a virtual laptop while adding protection and a lot of style. [Read more]

Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7170

User Rating:
Good: The Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7170 is a midprice big-screen gaming laptop that comes from one of our favorite high-end laptop lines. It includes a powerful GPU for gaming.
Bad: The plastic design looks and feels dated and a bit cheap. Serious gamer/multimedia types would likely spend a bit more for a 1080p screen and Core i7 CPU.
Bottom Line: With the recent emphasis on better materials and design across all laptop segments, the gaudy, plastic Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7170 delivers decent performance, but not a look to match. [Read more]

Good: Sony's XBA-4 in-ear headphones are the company's first to use four balanced armature drivers in each earpiece for ambient noise isolation, and they sound great.
Bad: Its high performance comes at an equally lofty price.
Bottom Line: Sony's audiophile-grade XBA-4 in-ear headphones deliver highly refined sound, with potent bass, airy treble, and excellent noise-canceling performance. [Read more]

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W650 (Red)

User Rating:
Good: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W650 is an attractive, easy-to-use ultracompact camera with a few nice extras for its sub-$140 price tag.
Bad: Photos taken above ISO 200 are noticeably soft, and its shooting performance is too slow for moving or impatient subjects.
Bottom Line: For simple snapshots of stationary subjects, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W650 should do the trick. At least, as long as you have plenty of light. [Read more]

Samsung SyncMaster S23A750D - 3D LED monitor - 23"

Posted: 13 Oct 2011 06:00 AM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Movies look incredible on the Samsung SyncMaster S23A750D and its games performance is excellent. The monitor includes lots of useful OSD options.
Bad: There's no DVI port, ergo options are limited, and the OSD array feels cramped. The connections that are included are embedded a bit too deeply into the chassis, and 3D performance does nothing to sell me on the tech.
Bottom Line: The Samsung SyncMaster S23A750D is a bit expensive and the 3D is disappointing, but its excellent performance in (non-3D) games and movies make it worth the asking price. [Read more]

Pantech Hotshot - red (Verizon Wireless)

Posted: 03 Oct 2011 11:44 PM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Pantech Hotshot is thin and light to handle. Call quality is solid, and photos taken on its camera are surprisingly decent. It doesn't require a data plan.
Bad: The Hotshot's processor is extremely laggy. The touch screen isn't sensitive, making texting, swiping, and pinch-to-zoom frustrating. If you want data, the network is slow.
Bottom Line: With its delayed touch screen and sluggish processor, the Hotshot's smartphone-esque look is a detriment. It's better to commit to a full-on feature phone or a smartphone instead of a device that overlaps the two. [Read more]
