Posted: 29 Jan 2014 02:19 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The 2014 Nissan Versa Note's active aerodynamics, small engine, and CVT delivered a consistent 35 mpg during our testing. The optional Around View Monitor makes this compact extremely easy to wedge into small parking spots. Second-row legroom and cargo capacity are both plentiful. Bad: Dashboard and door materials are cheap and the cabin is noisy and squeaky over rough roads. The four-speaker stereo is disappointing with an inconsistent interface. Many creature comforts that are standard in the competition are paid options or omissions for the Versa Note. Bottom Line: The 2014 Nissan Versa Note offers good efficiency and space for people and cargo, but there are so many better values in this class. [Read more] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2014 01:49 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The competitively priced ZTE Altair has a straightforward interface, a physical keyboard for easy messaging, and clear in-ear call quality. Bad: The Altair's low-res screen is grainy, its camera is mediocre, and its 3G speeds and bare-bones browser delivers a limited Web experience. Bottom Line: Consider Aio's ZTE Altair if you need an inexpensive QWERTY phone, but if you want a typical smartphone experience, shop around. [Read more] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2014 01:17 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Fragment gives you great touch-friendly tools and cool-looking geometric shapes for unleashing your creativity on your photos. Bad: There are no options to "undo" your last change or to go back a step. Bottom Line: Fragment has great touch controls for doing something truly unique with your photos, but if it's a basic photo-effects app you're looking for, there are better options. [Read more] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2014 12:08 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The ThinkPad Yoga has an innovative vanishing keyboard that solves a major hybrid problem. Construction, battery life, and ergonomics are up to Lenovo's typical high standards. Bad: The screen is smaller and lacks the higher resolution of the similar Yoga 2 Pro. The hidden keyboard adds mechanical complexity to what should be a rugged road system. The upgrades you'll want drive the price up quickly. Bottom Line: Lenovo solves half the Yoga equation with a clever hidden keyboard on the ThinkPad Yoga. If we could combine this with the higher-res screen and better looks of the consumer version, we'd have the ultimate hybrid. [Read more] |
Posted: 28 Jan 2014 06:00 PM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Pebble Steel is a great-looking wristwatch with top-end construction. A growing list of apps can be swapped on and off of the watch, via easy-to-use iPhone or Android control apps. And, at long last, there's an app store. Bad: Costs $100 more than the original Pebble despite offering the same underlying hardware. Only holds eight apps at a time. No microphone, speaker, touch screen, or color display. Fitness apps don't offer the same experience as a stand-alone device. Bottom Line: Equal parts fashionable and functional, the Pebble Steel leaps to the top of the smartwatch heap, but does so by improving existing tech rather than adding something totally new. Posted: 28 Jan 2014 11:05 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Its small size makes it comfortable to use, it has a searingly powerful processor, a good camera and decent battery life. It looks brilliant too and its waterproof design means you don't need to worry about dropping it in the bath. Bad: It's not running the latest version of Android and some of Sony's software tweaks don't really add anything to the experience. Bottom Line: With its powerful processor, great camera, decent screen and gorgeous, waterproof design, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is the best small Android phone around. [Read more] |
