Good: The continuously variable transmission works as the 2014 Nissan Altima's secret weapon for satisfying power delivery and good fuel economy. The optional navigation head unit offers Google destination search through the NissanConnect app.
Bad: Connected features are not well integrated into the car's tech interface, such that Internet radio and Google search aren't found under audio sources or navigation. Blind spot monitor lights are too dim.
Bottom Line: The 2014 Nissan Altima's continuously variable transmission distinguishes it in the saturated mid-size sedan segment, but competitors show better overall polish. [Read more]

Good: Staples Connect is a smooth, simple-to-use system that delivers on its promise of integrating devices of different networking protocols into a single home automation network, all without monthly fees.
Bad: Device controls within the Staples Connect app are too limited -- for full functionality, you'll need to keep most of those apps you were hoping to replace.
Bottom Line: It's probably too early to commit to a master smart home platform, but for basic home automation across multiple devices, Staples Connect works well -- and at $99, it's priced just right. [Read more]

Good: The Skydog router is an advanced and comprehensive way to manage your home network, locally or remotely, with robust monitoring, reporting, and content filtering features.
Bad: The router uses outdated hardware and is slow and expensive. Its Web filtering feature isn't always effective, especially for search engine results, and the cloud-connected firmware might pose privacy risks.
Bottom Line: Though feature-rich, the Skydog's hardware is too slow and limited to justify its high cost and ongoing subscription pricing. [Read more]
