Posted: 04 Jun 2012 10:47 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Samsung Galaxy Appeal has Android 2.3 Gingerbread's smartphone features and a comfortable backing. It won't bust a bank account. Bad: The Galaxy Appeal's small screen is hard to read, its lower-res camera lacks a flash, and I didn't love the keyboard. Its slower 3G data speeds may frustrate some. Bottom Line: The Samsung Galaxy Appeal delivers basic Android 2.3 functionality with a slide-out keyboard and wallet-friendly price, but there are performance and design trade-offs. [Read more] |
Nikon D3200 (with 18-55mm VR lens, Black) Posted: 04 Jun 2012 10:12 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: With reasonably fast performance and very good photo quality, the Nikon D3200 delivers what you expect from a dSLR. Bad: The camera's lackluster feature set, some underwhelming design changes, and photos that don't necessarily surpass its predecessor may disappoint. Bottom Line: A solid if unexceptional entry-level dSLR, the Nikon D3200 should still please most folks looking for an upgrade from their point-and-shoots. [Read more] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2012 10:06 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The reasonably priced 2012 Kia Sorento EX is available with a direct-injection engine getting excellent EPA-rated fuel economy. Hill descent comes standard and all-wheel drive is available. Bad: The navigation option eliminates UVO advanced voice command. No connected features, such as Google Local search, are available, and driver assistance features are limited to a rearview camera. Bottom Line: The 2012 Kia Sorento EX emphasizes the utility in SUV, offering good carrying capacity and easy drivability. The cabin electronics are solid and useful, but lack any advanced features. HP Officejet 150 Mobile All-in-One Posted: 04 Jun 2012 08:37 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Quick output performance, Bluetooth wireless printing, and flexible scanning options makes the HP Officejet 150 Mobile a viable option for printing on the go. Bad: The ability to print anywhere comes at a premium cost. Bottom Line: The HP Officejet Mobile 150 is a useful travel companion for professionals, but you can spend half the cash on the touch-screen-free previous model that performs just as well. Posted: 04 Jun 2012 04:58 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Panasonic TC-PVT50 series produces some of the best picture ever, with exceedingly deep black levels, highly accurate color, and perfect screen uniformity and off-angle performance. It can get brighter than competing plasmas and performs better in well-lit rooms. Although expensive, it costs much less than comparable LED and especially forthcoming OLED models. Its styling makes it as attractive as any plasma TV I've ever seen. Bad: The VT50 isn't as strong in terms of value as Panasonic's excellent midtier plasmas. Its 3D picture quality showed excessive crosstalk in our tests. Bottom Line: The Panasonic TC-PVT50 series represents the pinnacle of current flat-panel TV picture quality. [Read more] |

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 11:00 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Vaio T is an affordable, slim Sony laptop that shares a lot in common with the design of the Vaio Z, and comes with all the ports and features you'd need, plus a larger hard drive. Bad: The screen isn't the best we've seen on a Vaio, and a horribly shallow nonbacklit keyboard is uncomfortable. Bottom Line: Sony's first ultrabook, the Vaio T, doesn't fall far from the tree of other thin Sony laptops like the Vaio Z, but it's far more affordable: this is ultrabook-as-budget-laptop, not ultrabook as high-end computer. Posted: 04 Jun 2012 11:00 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Sony Vaio E series has been revamped with a sharp design, for a budget laptop, new Intel processors, and great keyboard and touch-pad combo. Bad: The thick chassis comes off as especially bulky and heavy in the age of the inexpensive ultrabook. Lower-resolution screens on a 15-inch laptop are starting to feel dated. Bottom Line: Sony pays some needed attention to the lower end of the midsize laptop market, with the sharp-looking new Vaio E series. [Read more] |
