Good: The TiVo Mini easily extends live and recorded TV from your main TiVo DVR to another room; little, lightweight box is considerably smaller than a DVR and doesn't require any additional services or equipment from your cable provider; also streams Xfinity On Demand (for Comcast subscribers) as well as other services like Hulu Plus, YouTube, and Spotify.
Bad: Only works with TiVo Premiere 4 and XL4 DVRs; currently requires a dedicated tuner from your DVR for live TV streaming; Netflix and Amazon Instant Video aren't available yet; requires wired network connections for both DVR and TiVo Mini; monthly or lifetime service fee.
Bottom Line: The TiVo Mini is an easy way to give another TV in your home access to your TiVo DVR, live TV, and streaming services. But if you're not in a hurry, you may want to wait till more features and services arrive. [Read more]

User Rating:
Good: The Seagate Business Storage 4-Bay NAS is a low-cost and reliable storage solution for both small businesses and consumers. Its integrated Universal Storage Module (USM) slot is a useful extra.
Bad: The Seagate Business Storage 4-Bay NAS is slow in writing and offers very few features; its USM slot's performance could be better, too.
Bottom Line: Given its relatively lower price, the Seagate Business Storage 4-Bay NAS is worth the investment. [Read more]

Sony SRS-BTV5/WHT

User Rating:
Good: The SRS-BTV5 is a sleek and compact ball-shaped wireless Bluetooth speaker that offers a good feature set, including a built-in rechargeable battery, speakerphone capabilities, an auxiliary input, and NFC one-touch tap-to-pair technology.
Bad: Sound-wise it fails to distinguish itself from the pack, and the NFC technology proved problematic.
Bottom Line: The Sony SRS-BTV5 wireless Bluetooth speaker boasts speakerphone and (iffy) NFC capabilities, but it doesn't beat the competition for the price. [Read more]

Toshiba Excite 10 SE (16GB)

User Rating:
Good: Comfortable feel, and a solid set of basic features for an Android tablet.
Bad: Lacks any higher-end feature sets, has a reduced set of features compared with the Excite 10, and has a cheap plastic feel. It also feels priced too high for what it is.
Bottom Line: The Toshiba Excite 10 SE looks like, and is, a generic budget-range 10-inch Android tablet...nothing more, nothing less. [Read more]

Bracketron Mi-T Grip Dash Mount

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Bracketron Mi-T Grip's tacky suction cup mount holds securely to dashboard materials. Gripping claw holds phone tightly. Almost no shake when device is locked in place.
Bad: The MSRP should probably be about $10 lower. Inserting or removing a phone single-handedly is tricky.
Bottom Line: The Bracketron Mi-T Grip is (both metaphorically and literally) a solid smartphone mount for users who prefer dashboard placement. [Read more]

Philips AEA7100 StarMaker Wireless Microphone and Bluetooth Speaker

Posted: 19 Mar 2013 04:55 PM PDT

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Karaoke kit for iPad boasts wireless Bluetooth microphone and speaker; free StarMaker app handles karaoke functionality onscreen.
Bad: Without an adapter, 30-pin dock connector only works with iPad 3 and older iPads; voice delays from the Bluetooth microphone reduce the fun; there are better-sounding wireless speakers for half the price; you can't use your existing song library -- each song must be purchased separately.
Bottom Line: The Philips AEA7100 Wireless Speaker and Microphone might be worth the bucks for hard-core karaoke fans, but $180 is a lot to ask for an accessory that takes a back seat to the free StarMaker karaoke app. [Read more]
