Good: The Kyocera Hydro from Boost runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, is waterproof, and has excellent call quality.
Bad: The Hydro has slow data and processor speeds, its speaker volume is low, and its profile is thick.
Bottom Line: With Android 4.0, solid call quality, and waterproof capabilities, the Kyocera Hydro is a great prepaid device. [Read more]

Good: The Acer Aspire V3 has a fast quad-core Core i7 processor and powerful Nvidia graphics, matching what you'd see in a high-end 15-inch laptop for a fraction of the cost.
Bad: Mediocre screen quality, a plastic, budget-feeling body, and poor touch-pad responsiveness keep this from being a premium product.
Bottom Line: Budget laptop shoppers looking for pure performance for $800 should flock to the Acer Aspire V3-571G-9435, but those looking for a comfortable, portable laptop should look elsewhere. [Read more]

Pioneer VSX-1022-K

Good: The Pioneer VSX-1022K features six HDMI inputs and built-in AirPlay. The AV receiver has built-in networking, with support for Pandora, DLNA, and Internet radio, plus you can control it from your smartphone. Discounts can bring the price down significantly.
Bad: The VSX-1022-K has some puzzling omissions, such as the lack of second-zone audio functionality and limited streaming-audio support. It can't update its firmware over its network connection, plus its Wi-Fi dongle costs $150. The user interface can at times look quite rough. Pioneer only offers a one-year warranty, rather than the standard two years offered by others. And sound quality was disappointing in our listening tests.
Bottom Line: The Pioneer VSX-1022-K's combination of six HDMI inputs and AirPlay looks good from afar, but this AV receiver is only worth considering if you can find it heavily discounted. [Read more]

Good: The Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE brings a fast processor, a superb keyboard, Android 4.0, and a bright, colorful screen.
Bad: Until Sprint LTE is more widespread, the Photon Q 4G LTE is mostly stuck with 3G data. The phone is thick, heavy, takes disappointing pictures, and its battery isn't user removable.
Bottom Line: The Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE is hefty, but packs modern Android power, an excellent keyboard, and LTE 4G if you're lucky. [Read more]

Escort SmartRadar (Android Version)

User Rating:
Good: The stealthy and accurate Escort SmartRadar doesn't attract a lot of attention. A small, remote display allows it to be used without the app. The Escort Live app adds a database of recently reported Live Alerts and red-light cameras.
Bad: Specific hardware for Android and iOS compatibility. High sticker price compared with Cobra iRadar. Installation is semipermanent.
Bottom Line: It's pricey, but the stealthy Escort SmartRadar detector and the Escort Live app proved to be more accurate than the competition and triggered fewer false alarms. [Read more]

Good: The Samsung ES6500 is a decent performer with excellent design and a good mix of features. Colors are fairly accurate and vibrant. Shadow detail is very good, lending weight and texture to images.
Bad: Black levels are not up to par with the model it replaces, and uniformity is fairly bad.
Bottom Line: The Samsung UNES6500 is a well-featured midrange television with good color but otherwise ho-hum picture quality and value. [Read more]
