Posted: 16 Dec 2011 02:43 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The HP Omni 220 1080QD offers some of the best performance available in a sub-$1,000 all-in-one desktop. Bad: I always cringe when an all-in-one, particularly with a 23-inch display, lacks an HDMI input. Bottom Line: HP's nontouch Omni 220 1080QD all-in-one boasts a strong, performance-oriented configuration that will satisfy anyone looking for a mainstream desktop. [Read more] |
Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Verizon Wireless) Posted: 15 Dec 2011 07:39 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus marries the power of the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS with the speed of Verizon's LTE network. The phone's beautiful screen and internal performance are top-notch. Bad: The Galaxy Nexus lacks a slot for expandable memory, and the 5-megapixel camera isn't Samsung's best. There's no support for Google Wallet, and several Ice Cream Sandwich features take some getting used to. Bottom Line: As the first U.S. phone with Ice Cream Sandwich, Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Nexus takes a coveted, solitary step forward. However, once other premium handsets receive the updated Android OS, the Galaxy Nexus will lose some of its competitive edge. [Read more] |
Posted: 09 Dec 2011 07:45 PM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: With its hybrid drive system, the 2012 Toyota Prius v averages better than 40 mpg. Entune gives it useful app integration, with Pandora, OpenTable, and others. Bad: The drivetrain makes a tortured sound under heavy acceleration. The iPod integration did not work reliably with anything older than an iPhone 4. Bottom Line: Excellent fuel economy and a large, airy cabin make the 2012 Toyota Prius v a very practical choice for families, and new electronics give it a modern tech edge. [Read more] |
Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 (16GB) Posted: 07 Dec 2011 06:09 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 is thin and light, with one of the brightest screens we've seen on a tablet. It also includes Micro-HDMI, a 5-megapixel camera that performs well, powerful speakers, and fast 4G LTE speeds, and it can act as a universal remote. Bad: The tablet doesn't offer a compelling-enough experience to warrant signing a two-year contract or buying it outright for its $600 off-contract price. Also, navigation was plagued by frequent hangs, the placement of the power button and volume rocker is annoying, and the aluminum plate on the back looks shoddily implemented. Bottom Line: Although thin and light, with fast 4G LTE speeds, the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 is impossible for us to recommend at its current price. [Read more] |

Samsung Repp - red (U.S. Cellular) Posted: 07 Dec 2011 02:27 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Samsung Repp has all the basics you'd expect in an Android 2.3 Gingerbread phone, and a great price: free. Bad: Be forewarned of the Repp's entry-level specs. The phone's call quality, speed, and camera are all serviceable, but the mediocre quality is noticeable, and the screen is too small. Bottom Line: The Samsung Repp offers a decent set of features for the free price, but it's worth shopping around for other U.S. Cellular deals. [Read more] |
