Posted: 07 Dec 2011 11:04 PM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The 2012 Acura RDX SH-AWD's turbocharged engine offers good, flat power delivery while its all-wheel-drive system makes this small crossover quite nimble. The Technology package brings the creature comforts we like as well as a great-sounding ELS premium audio rig. Bad: There's advanced driver aid tech available. Fuel economy is merely okay. Bottom Line: The 2012 Acura RDX's turbocharged engine delivers good performance, but also causes this pricey crossover to fall flat on its promise of efficiency. [Read more] |

The drive supports SATA 3 (6Gbps), performs very well, has up to 1TB of storage space, and works with all popular platforms, including Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Bad: The OCZ Octane SSD is comparatively slower in terms of data transfer speed than other SATA 3-based solid-state drives. The drive is significantly more expensive than traditional hard drives of the same capacity. Bottom Line: The OCZ Octane SSD makes an excellent host drive for any laptop or desktop. It offers great value in terms of performance and cost, especially for an SSD. [Read more] |

Posted: 01 Dec 2011 07:49 PM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: A new direct-injection engine helps the 2012 Mazda3 i Grand Touring get excellent fuel economy. Blind-spot detection warns of unsafe lane changes. Bad: The navigation system's route guidance is not very helpful and the stereo lacks a USB port. Bottom Line: There are some definite cabin tech deficiencies in the 2012 Mazda3 i Grand Touring, but its good gas mileage makes it a very practical everyday driver. [Read more] |
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 (silver, with 14-42mm lens) Posted: 30 Nov 2011 02:12 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Fast performance and excellent raw photo quality, combined with Panasonic's veteran touch-screen/direct-control hybrid interface, make the Lumix DMC-GX1 a strong ILC choice. Bad: The new X-series PZ kit lens could use some design tweaks, and Panasonic's JPEG processing, though much better than before, could still use a little work. Bottom Line: A well-designed camera with an interface that creative photographers can customize to their liking, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 deserves serious consideration if you're looking for a modestly compact interchangeable-lens model. Velocity Micro Raptor Z90 (Core i7 3930K, Fall 2011) Posted: 23 Nov 2011 02:21 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: With Intel's new six-core CPUs and a pair of strong graphics cards, the Velocity Micro Raptor Z90 delivers on its promise of fast gaming and multithreaded processing performance. Bad: Intel's new six-core chips don't offer many benefits to gamers, who can still get a great deal from Intel's older quad core Core i7's. Bottom Line: Velocity Micro's Raptor Z90 offers everything we expect given its high-end components, but Intel's latest CPUs lack the value of its older chips, making this system and others like it recommendable to buyers with niche performance needs. Posted: 22 Nov 2011 12:28 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The HTC Wildfire S is a beautifully built Android 2.3 Gingerbread handset with a decent 5-megapixel camera and lots of additional software features. Bad: Without compatibility for MetroPCS' LTE network, the Wildfire S is stuck at slow-as-slugs 2.5G speeds. Its small size makes it trickier to maneuver the Web. Bottom Line: Despite its small stature, the HTC Wildfire S is well-crafted and easy on the eye. Unfortunately, a slow data network holds it back. [Read more] |
