Epson WorkForce 845 All-in-One Printer Posted: 12 Oct 2011 02:32 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Epson WorkForce 845 excels in print speeds and output quality with hardware working overtime in auto-duplexing, wireless networking, and mobile printing support by way of Epson's suite of Connect mobile printing services. Bad: Its performance in the photo test tarnishes its otherwise chart-topping scores and put it behind competing models. Bottom Line: Though slightly more expensive than competing inkjet workhorses, we recommend the Epson WorkForce 845 for its refined design and Epson's Connect cloud-printing portfolio. [Read more] |
Posted: 06 Oct 2011 01:48 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The 2011 Nissan Quest's continuously variable transmission contributes to smooth acceleration and quickly steps down ratios for power. Good turning radius and a rear-view camera make for easy maneuvering. Bad: Navigation is not available on any but the top-trim Quest LE. The rear-seat entertainment system only gets a single screen where competitors have dual screens. The audio system interface is not well-integrated. Bottom Line: Although the 2011 Nissan Quest offers good maneuverability and plenty of usable interior space, its tech offerings lag considerably behind the competition. [Read more] |
2011 Infiniti G37 Sedan Journey Posted: 05 Oct 2011 04:15 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The 2011 Infiniti G37 Sedan Journey checks all of the right cabin tech option boxes. The hard-drive-based navigation system features traffic, weather, and voice commands. Hands-free calling and rearview camera are standard. The Bose audio system provides well-balanced sound. Bad: Observed fuel economy was unimpressive. Infiniti's packaging and pricing structure may lock some users into spec'ing unwanted options. Bottom Line: The 2011 Infiniti G37 Sedan Journey earns its price tag with great tech and performance, but its ride may be too sporty and harsh for its single-option automatic transmission and for its target audience. Bose SoundLink Wireless Mobile speaker (leather) Posted: 23 Sep 2011 09:29 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: For such a small, portable Bluetooth speaker, the Bose SoundLink Wireless Mobile sounds great and plays impressively loud without distorting. It also has a built-in rechargeable battery, an auxiliary input, a rugged design, and the option to swap out protective covers (one of which is included). Bad: The speaker is pricey and has no speakerphone capabilities. Bottom Line: If you're willing to pay a premium, the Bose SoundLink Wireless Mobile speaker is the best portable Bluetooth speaker on the market. [Read more] |

Posted: 15 Sep 2011 04:38 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The LG Marquee has a svelte and ultralight design that complements its stunning Nova display. It ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi. Call quality is fantastic. Bad: We have mixed feelings about the LG Marquee's oddball Sprint ID customization feature, and the Marquee is not the phone for you if you want 4G. Bottom Line: With its fashionable good looks and affordable price, the LG Marquee is one of our top choices among Android phones for Sprint if you don't need 4G. [Read more] |
Posted: 14 Sep 2011 11:52 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Sony KDL-NX720 series produces deeper black levels than any edge-lit LED-based TV we've tested. It evinces relatively accurate color, has a uniform screen for edge-lit LED, and can properly handle 1080p/24 sources. It has a beautiful, thin-profile exterior design with flush Gorilla Glass, and it has built-in Wi-Fi as well as an Internet suite that includes numerous streaming services and widgets. Bad: The expensive KDL-NX720 shows some blooming artifacts and crushes detail in shadows, and its image deteriorates more noticeably than usual when seen from off-angle. The design of its menu and Internet services interface is lackluster, and Sony does not include 3D glasses. Its 3D image is poor, with significant crosstalk, flicker when dejudder is turned off, and extreme intolerance to head tilt. Bottom Line: Albeit expensive and plagued by issues in 3D, the beautifully styled Sony KDL-NX720 has better picture quality than most other edge-lit LED-based LCD TVs. [Read more] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2011 07:30 AM PST Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Samsung PND7000 series has outstanding overall picture quality, with excellent black-level performance and extremely accurate color. The screen can handle bright rooms well and exhibits the nearly perfect screen uniformity of plasma. Key features include built-in Wi-Fi and a comprehensive set of picture controls, and the Smart Hub Internet portal boasts more apps and streaming services than the competition. The PND7000's design is one the most attractive of any plasma we've seen. Bad: The relatively expensive PND7000 cannot produce full shadow detail or proper 1080p/24 cadence without sacrificing some black-level performance. Smart Hub lacks Amazon Instant, its search is next to useless, and its interface can be cluttered and confusing. Bottom Line: With picture quality on par with the best TVs we've ever tested, the Samsung PND7000 plasma represents an excellent value for videophiles who don't demand to own the top of the line.
