Are you hosting Thanksgiving or bringing a dish to a potluck? If so, plans are probably already in place for the turkey, side dishes, and desserts, but there might be a chance to take your recipes to the next level -- if you have the right apps.

There are several cooking apps for both iPhone and Android that are great year round, but they also often have special featured recipe collections around the holidays. If you want to kick your green bean casserole up a notch (or any other holiday dish) I suggest you take a look at what these apps have to offer.

Allrecipes.com Dinner Spinner Pro ($2.99) gives you fun and easy access to the user-generated recipes on the popular cooking Web site. The primary focus of this cooking app is the the Dinner Spinner, which gives you a slot-machine-style interface that helps you search for--or just stumble upon--new meal possibilities by rotating horizontal spinners to choose a recipe by meal type, ingredient, or cook time. New Firefox opens up to older phones

Posted: 19 Nov 2012 12:22 PM PST

Firefox for Android (download) has seen a lot of changes this year that have looked to the future, but today's release makes the browser compatible with a selection of older Android phones.

Released a day ahead of schedule because the features were ready, explained a Mozilla representative in an e-mail to CNET, Firefox 17 for Android supports an expansive list of ARM v6 hardware. This means that older but popular phones like the Samsung Galaxy Pro GT-B7510, HTC Status, Motorola XT531, and Motorola Fire XT can now run the alternative browser.

The hardware restrictions are fairly minimal, and appear to include many if not most phones still running Android 2.2. As long as your phone has at least an 800 MHz processor and 512 MB of RAM, it ought to be able to run the browser.

Apple has approved 1 million iOS apps, according to an application discovery company.

Appsfire revealed the findings on its Twitter account yesterday. In an e-mailed statement to CNET, an Appsfire spokesperson said that its tally includes all of the apps "that have been submitted and approved by Apple and that went live in the App Store" since its launch in 2008. The spokesperson was quick to point out that the tally does not include those apps that have been submitted and rejected.

The Next Web was first to report on the Appsfire tally.

Apple announced last month that its App Store has 700,000 applications available. According to Appsfire, the disparity includes apps that have either been removed by developers or Apple.

Apple is notorious for keeping App Store information close to the vest, leaving some doubt in the accuracy of Appsfire's findings. However, the company, which offers an app that helps users find programs worth downloading to their mobile devices, says that it has been able to keep up with app submissions with help from an iTunes feed.

"It is available on-demand, but needs work to be digested," Appsfire's spokesperson told CNET.

Right now, Appsfire said it bel... [Read more]

Generally the addition of "Express" to the name of any program means that it is a light or less feature-packed version of the original. However, in the case of Pixlr Express, the amount of options packed into the app doesn't make it feel like a light version at all.
