For those of you who own one of Apple's new MacBook Air or MacBook Pro systems that were released in June, Apple has made a software update available. The update is around 127MB in size and includes bug fixes and performance enhancements for the systems' graphics, and their ability to communicate with some USB devices.

While Apple didn't reveal the specific problems addressed by this update, recently a few owners of the new MacBooks have reported noticing flashing displays when waking the system, washed-out or high-contrast colors when using external displays, and odd graphical artifacts when using some programs and system features like Launchpad.

The JogoBox team essentially went out into the Internet and collected as many abandonware and browser games as they could find and stuck it all in once place -- a simple yet brilliant idea! We were able to play some old classics of the DOS days and rediscovered games that have been long forgotten. Play through oldies like Sid Meier's Civilization, Desert Strike, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Prince of Persia, and even the original Warcraft! It was worth the install just to play some childhood favorites like Jazz Jackrabbit 2... [Read more]

It's not just your imagination -- Chrome really is getting faster.

Google said today that its JavaScript benchmark tool shows Chrome is 26 percent faster than it was last year.

"Stability sometimes takes higher priority, but we're still manic about improving Chrome's speed," Google's Toon Verwaest said in a blog post.

One way Google avoids the bloat that has crippled other browsers over the years -- the company set up automated tests to notify engineers whenever a change in the code makes the browser slower, Verwaest said.

The company's efforts aren't limited to JavaScript improvements -- it also made recent moves to reduce the browser's startup time.

Chrome has slowly but steadily improved its market share since its debut four years ago; its focus on speed is surely a top reason why.

One of the most anticipated mobile games this year is launching today.

Angry Birds Star Wars is available today across a wide array of platforms, including iOS, Android, Mac, PC, and Windows Phone. As one might expect, given the name, the title melds elements from Angry Birds with the "Star Wars" universe.

The title, which is available for 99 cents in Apple's App Store, puts gamers in control of Rebel Birds fighting Imperial Pigs. The game lets players use the Force, hack away with a lightsaber, and take on Pigtroopers as they fight to take down Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Pigs. Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie also make appearances in the game.
