Posted: 24 Aug 2012 12:57 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Kyocera Rise runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, has a sliding keyboard, and has great call quality. Bad: The Rise has a laggy processor and a bulky, heavy design. Bottom Line: The competitively priced Kyocera Rise is fitting for texting enthusiasts looking for a starter smartphone with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. [Read more] |
Posted: 23 Aug 2012 09:22 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Dell Inspiron 17R is a big, desk-filling laptop for not much money, built into a similar chassis as Dell's recently reviewed, and more expensive, 17R SE model. Bad: Low screen resolution for a 17-inch laptop, no discrete graphics, no clickpad. Bottom Line: If you need maximum screen size at a minimum price, this basic 17-inch Dell Inspiron 17R is powerful enough for everyday tasks, but the lower screen resolution is a constant reminder of its budget origins. Posted: 23 Aug 2012 09:16 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The 2012 Kia Rio SX's handling and performance feel more responsive than the on-paper specs would indicate. The GDI engine is reasonably efficient. The optional navigation system is simple and effective. Bad: Users must choose between Uvo advanced voice command or navigation. No premium audio is available. Handling is vague near the limit. Bottom Line: The 2012 Kia Rio SX sedan feels sportier than its cousins at Hyundai, but we'd rather not have to choose between between Kia's two tech packages. Posted: 23 Aug 2012 08:56 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Speed, good looks, and pretty pictures number among the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100's strengths. Bad: The camera tends to clip bright highlights more than we typically see, and the slippery body lacks a grip. Plus, the lack of a manually triggered macro mode might put off some fans of close-up photography. Bottom Line: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100's compact, elegant design, generally excellent photo quality, bright, fast lens, and speedy performance make a great package if you don't mind spending a little more money. Posted: 23 Aug 2012 07:49 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Facebook for iOS is faster than ever with a new native app. You can now see cover photos and the Timeline, and all the features you usually get on the site. Bad: Those who enjoyed using the photo navigation strip across the bottom of photos when viewing on the iPad are out of luck. Bottom Line: The new version of the app is incredibly fast, and will make Facebook users much happier to use the app to get the latest friend photos and updates. [Read more] |
Posted: 23 Aug 2012 01:00 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: An excellent set of specs and features in the Acer Aspire V5-171-6867 include a Core i5 processor, 6GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, HDMI, USB 3.0, and even Bluetooth, all for a surprisingly low price, and stuffed into a very small Netbook-like body. Bad: It has a cramped-feeling keyboard and touch pad, weak battery life, and poor speakers, plus an uninspired, thick design. Bottom Line: The Acer Aspire V5-171-6867 crams the horsepower of a full-fledged budget ultrabook into an 11-inch ultraportable, for several hundred dollars less than most equivalent products. It's a great budget laptop to consider, but sacrifices have been made to shrink down that much computer into a tiny package. [Read more] |
Posted: 22 Aug 2012 11:58 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Samsung t159 has terrific call quality, large buttons, visual voice mail, and an affordable price. Bad: Samsung's t159 has a small display and weak resolution; it lacks a dedicated headset jack. Bottom Line: An example of excellent call quality at a dirt-cheap price, the Samsung t159 excels at the basics, but stumbles on style. [Read more] |
