Good: Spotify has an enormous music catalog that is available to users, on demand, for free. Social features make it great for discovering new music.
Bad: Intermittent audio ads for free users are loud and extremely annoying. It needs more curated radio stations.
Bottom Line: With its enormous catalog of on-demand streaming music and its built-in social features for discovering new tunes, Spotify is an absolute must-have for audiophiles and casual listeners alike. But free users, beware of intermittent eardrum-piercing ads. [Read more]

Vizio M3D651SV

User Rating:
Good: The Vizio M3D651SV is the one of the cheapest 65-inch 3D TVs available. Its picture offers a fair amount of contrast punch, colors are vibrant, and 3D is very good. There's a full complement of features including a QWERTY remote, and the Smart TV interface is responsive and simple to use.
Bad: The big screen is almost unbearably reflective in a bright room. The TV suffers from a blue cast that can't be corrected, and shadow detail is murky.
Bottom Line: The Vizio M3D651SV offers a lot of screen for comparatively little money, but unless you really want 3D, there are better big-screen values. [Read more]

Philips SoundShooter (orange)

User Rating:
Good: The grenade-size Philips SoundShooter Wireless has an eye-catching design, streams music wirelessly over Bluetooth, and delivers much bigger sound than its size would indicate. It features speakerphone capabilities and its built-in rechargeable gives you about 8 hours of sound.
Bad: No volume control on the speaker. It also distorts at higher volumes and can't handle big bass that well.
Bottom Line: The Philips SoundShooter Wireless has a sharp design and is one of the better-sounding sub-$50 tiny Bluetooth speakers -- and it has speakerphone capabilities to boot. [Read more]

Camera+ (iOS)

Good: Camera+ has been around long enough to have a ton of useful features added and all the bugs smoothed out. It's one of the easiest to use photo-editing apps available.
Bad: You can't see live previews of your selected effects before you take your pictures.
Bottom Line: If you're looking for a solid photo editor that lets you add effects to your images along with a ton of other useful perks, you should download this app. [Read more]

Origin EON17-SLX

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The insanely powerful Origin EON17-SLX can make short work of any PC game, and is configurable enough to fit many budgets. Service and support is stellar.
Bad: The generic-looking off-the-shelf body isn't becoming of a $4,000 laptop; Windows 8 feels odd without a touch screen.
Bottom Line: No one puts together custom high-end gaming laptops, including this desktop-busting 17-inch EON17-SLX, better than Origin, but you'll pay for that expertise. [Read more]

2013 Lexus ES 300h

User Rating:
Good: The 2013 Lexus ES 300h is an attractive vehicle inside and out, with great build quality and a quiet, stable ride. A wide range of technology and comfort options are available to the driver. The 300h delivers great hybrid fuel economy.
Bad: The engine sound in Sport mode is unrefined and very un-Lexus. Most of the best tech options are only available as part of expensive packages.
Bottom Line: The 2013 Lexus ES 300h is a solid option for drivers looking for a premium hybrid. Unfortunately, its cousin -- the 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid -- is just as good, but a much better value. [Read more]

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 08:41 PM PST

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 has an excellent f2.8 25-600mm zoom lens; fast shooting performance, even when shooting in raw or raw plus JPEG; and excellent picture and video quality for its class. It has a ton of shooting options, including full manual for stills and movies. It also has a hot shoe and an audio input socket.
Bad: The FZ200 expensive, especially if all you're after is a long zoom lens. It doesn't have built-in GPS or Wi-Fi, or a proximity sensor for switching from the LCD to EVF. The SD card slot and battery compartment can't be accessed when the camera is on a tripod.
Bottom Line: If you're searching for a long-zoom camera that falls in between a point-and-shoot and digital SLR experience, look no further than the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200. [Read more]

True Skate (iOS)

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: True Skate is an excellent skateboarding sim with realistic physics, great graphics and sound, and hours of fun gameplay as you try to master your tricks.
Bad: The game only comes with one skate park. Lack of a replay system means you need to use the rewind button to watch your trick backward. Creating a session requires going deep into the options menus.
Bottom Line: If you like skateboarding, True Skate has excellent controls and beautiful 3D graphics, and it offers hours of entertainment as you try to land the perfect trick. [Read more]

Photo Grid (Android)

Editor's Rating:
User Rating:
Good: Photo Grid offers a huge menu of grid templates and a dead-simple interface for combining photos into framed collages.
Bad: The app unfortunately doesn't let you customize the thickness of collage borders or the level of curvature on rounded panels.
Bottom Line: Even though it's missing a couple of nifty customization tools, Photo Grid's simple interface and outstanding menu of pre-designed grids make it the best collage app on the market. [Read more]
