Posted: 28 Mar 2013 12:51 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Samsung Rugby 3 has a terrifically responsive dial pad and enhanced push-to-talk support. Bad: Audio quality was sub-par, the shared headset/charger jack is inconvenient, and for a durable phone, the body could be grippier. Bottom Line: Very poor call quality is especially unacceptable on a simple cell phone. Unless you require AT&T's push-to-talk service, keep looking. [Read more] |
Posted: 28 Mar 2013 12:03 AM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: In-ear headphone dishes out maximum thump for bass aficionados; works as iPhone headset with integrated microphone; has click-wheel volume/pause controls on the right earpiece. Bad: The AH-C300's cables don't detach, so when they break you will have to get the headphones repaired. The sound is better suited to rock and hip-hop than jazz or classical music. They're larger than average for in-ear headphones. Bottom Line: The Denon AH-C300 Urban Raver in-ear headphones deliver ample bass and will please hip-hop and rock fans with its lively dynamics and treble detailing. [Read more] |
Posted: 27 Mar 2013 11:59 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The Liquid Image Ego is very small and lightweight; simple to operate; has built-in Wi-Fi; uses a standard 1/4-20 tripod mount; and is shockproof to about 6 feet. Bad: Limited shooting options; tiny on-camera controls and screen; 29-minute clip length limit; not waterproof; only one mount included; like many cameras, includes no storage; battery isn't removable; Wi-Fi connection lost while recording. Bottom Line: The egg-sized Liquid Image Ego wins on size and simplicity, but its features -- outside of built-in Wi-Fi -- are minimal. [Read more] |

Posted: 27 Mar 2013 11:46 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: Flipboard is a great way to read RSS feeds and connect with social networks, providing a magazine style layout you can flip through with a swipe of your finger. Bad: Flipboard, while beautiful, is not efficient for getting through multiple news sources quickly. Bottom Line: With tons of customization options and a unique magazine-style interface, anyone looking for a better way to browse the latest news and social info should definitely download this app immediately. HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15z-b000 Sleekbook Posted: 27 Mar 2013 11:43 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The AMD-powered HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15z-b000 Sleekbook is a slim, midsize laptop at a very reasonable price, and includes a touch screen. Bad: Battery life is disappointing, and budget-priced Intel laptops are still faster. Bottom Line: With a great design for the price and some better-than-expected graphics power, the HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15z-b000 Sleekbook may be worth overlooking its shortcomings if you're on a tight budget. ZyXel PLA4231 500 Mbps Powerline Wireless N Extender Posted: 27 Mar 2013 06:49 PM PDT Editor's Rating: User Rating: Good: The ZyXel PLA4231 500 Mbps Powerline Wireless N Extender is a two-port power-line adapter with built-in Wi-Fi and hence extends a home network for both wired and wireless clients. Bad: The ZyXel PLA4231 doesn't support Gigabit Ethernet or dual-band Wi-Fi, and, without a required second power-line adapter, it's rather expensive. Bottom Line: Current power-line users with large homes will benefit from the ZyXel PLA4231's network extension capabilities; however, there are alternatives that offer similar benefits for less.
