| PictureShow 3.0: A stylish camera, photo editor for iPhone Posted: 10 Mar 2011 03:49 PM PST A stylish camera and fun photo editor, PictureShow, now updated to version 3.0, offers users a vast array of effects, adjustments, and camera styles to choose from when snapping and editing their photos. PictureShow has been my go-to photo editor to get that popular low-fi look that seems to be spreading around the Web. New additions to the camera function in version 3.0 are 5 new lenses including a cool multiexposure look, a rule-of-thirds grid, and a 10-second timer function. A cleaner interface and many more filters and options make PictureShow 3.0 a great addition to any photography app collection. (Credit: Photo by Joe Aimonetti/CNET)PictureShow has also added 11 new styles to their already impressive array of filters. Calm, Vintage Red, Light Lime, Old Gray, and Blue Print are just a few. You can add to the stylistic looks by including the new Tilt Shift effect, which allows you to control the depth and intensity of the blur. An original photo with no adjustments. (Credit: Photo by Joe Aimonetti/CNET)You can now share photos on Tumblr blogs, and you can transform your photos by cropping with preselected ratios or a freeform box. Once you've got all your adjustments made, PictureShow 3.0 allows you to save them into a Recipe so you can quickly add the exact same effects to another photo. Adding the PictureShow HDR, Tilt Shift, color, and style effects can give a nice photo great style. (Credit: Photo by Joe Aimonetti/CNET)Combined with all the new effects, the new camera functions, the Tilt Shift and HDR adjustments, an updated UI, and plenty of sharing options, PictureShow 3.0 is a great upgrade to an already nice photography app for iPhone. For $1.99, I'd recommend it to anyone looking to get unique, lo-fi looks to their photographs on the go. You can check out more of my photographs, many edited with PictureShow, on my photo blog. | iPad LogMeIn app gets File Manager, Wake on LAN Posted: 10 Mar 2011 03:39 PM PST LogMeIn Ignition iPad app's new File Manager feature lets you access data from a remote computer. (Credit: Screenshot by Dong Ngo/CNET)If you have been using the LogMeIn Ignition application as a cool way to run Windows 7 on the iPad, you now can do even more with it. LogMeIn revealed today that it has just finished an update to the LogMeIn Ignition app for the iPad that adds a major new feature called File Manager. Basically, now, in addition to allowing you to control a remote computer over the Internet using an iPad, the app also enables you to view and transfer files back and forth between the iPad and the remote computer. I tried out the new version of the app and it worked very well. Once logged in, you have the options of controlling the remote computer or accessing its data. When the latter is picked, you're able to view the entire contents of the computer's entire hard drive or drives, including even hidden files and folders. Files and folders are organized somewhat like photo albums, and supported files (namely those for which the reader apps are installed on the iPad, such as photo, text, or PDFs) can be opened directly from the remote computer. You can also copy and move files between the iPad and the remote computer. (Credit: Screenshot by Dong Ngo/CNET)You can also copy files and even folders from the remote computer onto the iPad. To do this, you can just Tab to the file or folder to select it, then tap on the copy (or move) button. Multiple files or folders can be copied, moved, or deleted at a time. When a single file or folder is selected, you also have the option to rename it. Once a file or folder has been copied to the iPad, you can then copy or move it to another remote computer. Folders can also be updated with the original versions on the remote computer. Unfortunately, you can't transfer files originally stored on the iPad, such as photos in its photo library, to the remote computer; nor can you put photos or videos from the remote computer into the iPad's libraries. This means each time you want to view files that you have copied from a remote computer, you'll need to run the LogMeIn Ignition app. To make up for this, the app enables you to work with multiple computers at a time, including transfering files and folders directly among them, and you can switch between different computers via different windows, similar to switching between Web sites when using Safari. So far this could be the biggest improvement of the app: now you can not only control the remote computer but also use it as something of a "cloud" data server for the iPad. Apart from the File Manager, the update also brings back the "Wake on LAN" function that was taken away with the previous update. With Wake on LAN you can turn the remote computer on via the Internet, eliminating the need to keep it running all the time. According to LogMeIn, the update is now going through Apple's approval process and will soon be available to existing customers via Apple's App Store as a free update. The LogMeIn service can be used for free (there are also subscriptions with more features) via a Web browser. The LogMeIn Ignition app, which allows access from the iPad, on the other hand costs $30. The app and the update also work with the iPhone and iPod Touch, via both cellular and Wi-Fi connections. With this update, the LogMeIn Ignition app is now worth its rather hefty price tag. (Credit: Screenshot by Rick Broida)St. Patrick's Day traditions: wearing green-colored clothes, drinking green beer, celebrating the Irish, and, now, flinging birds at pigs. (Kinda fits, don't you think?) That's right: Rovio just rolled out a St. Patrick's Day-themed update to Angry Birds Seasons, with 15 new levels, two Golden Eggs, a "St. Paddy's Day surprise," and St. Patrick's Day greeting cards you can send to friends via Facebook. (The above link takes you to the iPhone version. It's also available for iPad, and Android users can get the update starting tomorrow, March 11.) The "Go Green, Get Lucky" levels come alive with cloverleafs, pots of gold, and a delightful Celtic soundtrack. Oh, and pigs in Leprechaun hats. (This may just be the cutest Seasons update yet.) Angry Birds fans may recall that Seasons received a Valentine's Day update back in February, and, before that, Christmas- and Halloween-themed levels. As with the Valentine's Day version, you can unlock three bonus levels just by "liking" the game on Facebook. Can't get enough Birds? Stay tuned for the game's first movie tie-in: Angry Birds Rio is due from Rovio sometime this month, just ahead of the eponymous movie from 20th Century Fox. Personally, I'd rather see something like Angry Birds: Despicable Me Edition, but I guess birders can't be choosers. Thank you, thank you, I'm here all week. Originally posted at iPhone Atlas |
